Thank you! I loved this. So many people bash Ron, and never seems to occur to any of them that Ron was the only one of the Golden Trio who actually had a choice. Harry and Hermione were doomed to either fight or die, no matter what. Voldemort marked Harry when he killed Harry's parents and Harry couldn't escape his fate. Hermione was muggle-born, and even if she hadn't been a friend of Harry's, she was a target. But Ron was not only pure-blood, but also one of the Sacred Twenty-eight. Yes, his family was known as blood traitors, but he still could have gone back to Hogwarts with his sister. That would have been the safer route, not just for him, but his family as well. So yeah, Bill's right, Ron IS the bravest of the three. Thanks for posting.

Liked the build up at the end of the chapter; use of humour is terrific, too - a lot of people seem to forget how much humour there is in the Harry Potter series, even HBP and DH, and it's a really effective way to put across, in truth, how serious things are for the characters - trying to be normal whilst the world crumbles around you. Hey, just catching up with this, and I really liked this chapter. I think Ron really was confused as to why Hermione was so angry with him. After all, he thought she was dating (or had dated) Victor Krum, who's a big star. I think Ron decided Hermione was out of his league, so he might as well look elsewhere. Thanks for posting.

Everyone's always on Hermione's side when Ron was dating Lavender (and I'm sympathetic to Hermione as well), but I also understand where Ron was coming from. Ron's best friend was the hero of the wizarding world. Ron felt like the last and the least in his own family (case in point, neither the twins nor Ginny had to wear moldy old clothes to the Yule Ball), and finally, the girl he fancied had dated a huge star (Krum) and kissed him (however briefly). Ron probably felt like he couldn't possibly compete. To top it off, his two best friends and little sister were part of the 'slug club' and Ron wasn't. But then Lavender threw herself in Ron's arms and made him feel like SOMEONE valued him.
