no amount of words can sum it up.
it is one of the best stories that I have ever read and only a few stories have made me feel so deeply as this one.
the characters, the setting, the language, the emotions, I don't have a single flaw to point out. You have established a piece of literary art.
I generally don't read about side characters much but this story made me care about them. So. Very. Much.
The way you described the emotions and thoughts and motivations of these characters left me baffled at your skill.
This story of grief and loss and hope, it was something I very much needed, now, more than ever.
oddly enough, I read this due to the current pandemic and I am so glad I did.

Neji especially was amazing haha, and his yell was absolutely adorable
And Sasuke's changes were really portrayed well and it all made so much sense - and after Danzo's death, he was so at peace that it made me happy too

That was absolutely brilliant and so pervertedly inhumane, I'll have you to thank for the incessant nightmares to come. Gahh my heart literally cannot take any of this amazing read so far and kabuto got what he deserved, the sick fuck. You characterise amazingly and the story telling has been phenemonal. So whilst I hate parts that toy with my feelings (in the best way, of course), thank you for all these chapters for now and can't wait to binge the rest!

Hey, just that anon from before complaining ahout the itachi feels except I've actually been bothered to log in and leave a final review. I am gobsmacked and this fic was at first a post apocalyptic guilty pleasure but had turned into so much more. Dumb and sentimental as it may be I feel an emotional connection with your cast of characters, the grief, the hurt, their every struggle. You have made them come truly come to life and given me a most unforgettable five hours of binging. I really cannot express what a wonderful piece you've created and honestly that lantern scene at the end, with sasuke writing down all the names, even the doc, just tiny details like that blow me away and really cements the piece. Sorry this review is so rambley - my thoughts are really all over the place but if anything thank you again for writing this fic, and it was absolutely beautiful. Sasuke's vengeful desire to burn down Konoha and how he doesn't just fall for 'friendship and love' but stays cynical and forever a bit too broken to be healed - fucking beautiful. Definitely one of my top three fics now, and doubtlessly I will reread this again soon. Take care Zen!

I’ve been avoiding this fic for years because of its infamous depressing reputation. When I read fic, I tend to gravitate towards crack taken seriously and fix-it fics, because isn’t the very nature of fanfiction self-indulgent and gratuitous?
I couldn’t avoid this forever, though. I had to read it; it’s on every single Naruto genfic recommendation list I’ve encountered. And I’m glad I finished it and didn’t quit read when it got too bleak. This was some of the most mature, innovative, and well-grounded writing I’ve seen in the fanfiction world period. Thank you for writing this classic.
