Yes, Hamish is very lucky Sherlock is able to open his heart. I just read a bunch of your chapters in a group and the best I can tell is that Hamish is approaching 3? The moments of joy and discovery are precious and memorable, but the majority of a childs day is kind of repetitive. They have to practice their fine motor, verbal and cognitive skills thousands of times for them to develop. Hamish is lucky to be bright and to have Sherlock's attention to develop them to their highest possible potential, so he will be quite precocious. Too many children are left alone, in daycare or given electronics to take the place of human interactions so they don't develop the needed skills as well. Real life does not move as fast or stimulate the brain the same way as TV or electronic games. Hamish is showing more people skills, empathy and compassion than they would.
