This is a really great story you have here! The artifact is quite creative, and things really get intense by the end. I do have one criticism though, as I was reading your story, the flowery vocabulary actually distracted me from the storyline instead of drawing me in. It wasn't difficult to understand, but I feel that all the fancy wording kept me as the reader from really being immersed in your story because it felt like you were paying more attention to using a good vocabulary then to describing it well. That's just my opinion, the story itself is great, with a good cliffhanger ending. Thanks for sharing!
