Wonderful idea of using the change in John's handwriting as an indicator of his diminishing condition.

Gorgeous phrasing in the very angsty chapter:
"plodding, dragging destruction of the man he loved"
"a harrowing convulsion of his spirit"
"the white noise of the respiration both covering the sounds of death and bringing it forward"
"a strength that was unfathomable"
"the silence of his absence"

How insightful John is.
"I'll miss you always insisting I eat." Sigh.
"Not dead yet." "No, not yet." Tissues again.
Again, I love how you interject a light tone amidst the sadness.

This is so touching! This Mum, despite her Alzheimer's, is very wise: "I won't give you forgiveness though. Because you needn't have it. I understand. Remember that."

Oh, I just discovered this story yesterday. It's heartbreaking, and lovely. I wonder what the key will be for...
