I've often wondered this very thing about Harry. What JKR put him through would have crippled some of the very strong, very battered people I know. Many FF writers have added to it and made it even worse. Coming from ten years at the Dursleys with no emotional safety net, then sent back there for a yearly "booster shot" of neglect and abuse after yet another harrowing year at Hogwarts, it's a wonder Harry is sane. His life reminds me of kids who grow up in war and post-war zones, trying to stay alive and out of the clutches of not just the avowed military enemies but also the usual creeps who prey on kids.

Face it ... Harry has lived on high alert and battle ready since returning to the magical world. He must suffer from a monster case of combat fatigue, or war neurosis. He has never been allowed to grieve properly for those he has lost, and no one has ever given a thought to his emotional needs. He is a kid, for Pete's sake! Why hasn't Poppy ever recommended he see a mind healer or even a Squib therapist following some of his "Hogwarts adventures"? Is she that inept?

To make matters worse, it seems Ron and Hermione are second-guessing him. Ron THINKS he has done everything Harry has done, but he hasn't. He has accompanied Harry on his adventures TO A POINT ... but he has never been there for the real nitty gritty. Harry has experienced Ron's betrayal before, once already on the Hunt. He probably can't help wondering when or if it will happen again.

This was good. It needs a little editing over minor grammatical points - but you did well to capture the seaside setting, Harry's emotional conflict regarding Ginny and Luna, and also the coupling of Harry and Luna.

Luna's (and your!) idea on how to get the Basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets was smart - better than JKR's limp explanation of how Ron got inside it, in The Deathly Hallows...

So far it's well written and interesting. I do love a well written Harry/Luna story so this one will be added to my favs.

I enjoyed this story, but it seems unfinished. I would have liked to have seen Luna join the trio, and I especially would have liked to have seen Ron and Hermione's reaction to the addition.

I think you could have done a bit more of ignoring canon. Stealing the sword of Gryffindor from the goblins when there were Basilisk fangs awaiting, basically for the asking, is really pretty dumb. Anything that risks another war with the goblins is dumb.

"mostly irksome" should be "most irksome".

"I am worried about how much longer I'm expected to sit here and wonder how much longer I'll have to go before seeing you... properly." is too redundant. It should be just "I am worried about how much longer I'm expected to sit here before seeing you... properly."

"Harry was grabbed" should be "Harry grabbed".

Luna's line "I think she's had her turn with you, and now I want mine" is too cold-hearted and self-interested for Luna. She should probably say "I think in the end it really doesn't matter. What matters is who you feel the strongest and deepest connection with. And Harry Potter, I think that's me."

Excellent read so far. :) I really like Harry Luna parings. Luna sees Harry for who he is, and is actually looks passed his boy-who-lived crap that other girls always see him for. If you're interested, I have a short story called With Arms Wide Open, which I have written. This is my first ever fanfic I've written. If you like it, feel free to follow me. I may have more stories planned, problem is I'm having trouble thinking of plots for them. I have lots of Ideas for characters for the stories, but I need help thinking of plots.

The Deadliest Ride

I have wanted to see something like this for awhile. I actually have the beginnings of a similar idea, though I am not as far along, and it detours a bit from what you have here so far. I really like the pairing of Luna and Harry, and I was disappointed that they did not get together or have some nice moments at Shell Cottage together.

I like the story for the most part.
