Wow, I come back to this part of maybe once a year and browse stories from one of my favorite series... and let me say, this takes the cake for knock-my-socks-off good. Such maturity here! I hope you continue! I almost had a tear at Esplin's realization that someone may want to fight for him. Awesome!

At first I wasn't sure about this and I am really glad I opened it.

Wow, yeah...Actually that could have contributed a lot to Visser Three's issues, now that I think of it.
I like the ending, how Cassie promises to come back. Cause yeah, it's not like she'll care if the higher ups disapprove. She's an Animorph; she can do anything she wants. For the most part.
I'm also glad you chose Cassie for this story.
If Jake did it, the conversation would turn into a mental shouting match and Jake would come out even more traumatized than ever. Closure? Hahaha no.
If Rachel did it, it would turn into a mental shouting match again. Maybe not as much trauma as with Jake, but I don't think she'd stop Esplin from committing suicide.
If Marco did it, there would definitely be mental argument, though it would be a bit snarkier. I think he'd be too scared of the Visser to do it, though.
If Tobias did it...dunno. He's a hawk, can't predict him.
But Cassie was perfect!

I really enjoyed this. It's interesting to see Esplin's thoughts after the war, and I think in choosing Cassie to speak with him you were successful in drawing out of him the softer side. But having him freak out was perfect. That's the Visser we all know. It's hard for me to find a story that will actually hold my attention, but you did so with a mix of great writing and awesome direction. I like the idea of Esplin trying to kill himself too. I honestly thought he would, but was then surprised. Yeah, Cass is good. Thanks for sharing I loved it!
