The comic didn’t bother me all that much, but I can understand why it bothered so many people. I didn’t believe Zuko would be so willing to give up the throne just because of the possibility that Ozai might not be his father, especially since he spent most of season two complaining about having to live as a refugee. The Fire Nation still needs a Fire Lord whether it was Zuko’s birthright or not.

Ursa’s story didn’t bother me all that much, however I will admit that what was shown of her and Ozai was inconsistent with what Zuko said about his family having been happy at one point in his life. How could that have been possible if Ozai was always a total bastard? Zuko even reminisces about his childhood on Ember Island and we see a hint to him having once had at least a somewhat healthy relationship with his father.

The comics aren't canon and this fic perfectly outlines why.

Oh my gosh yes! Ugh I hated those comics! Zuko becomes so apologetic and hesitant! Like bro you already did that! It's so true the comics were just so inferior to the show. And honestly LoK(while having some good stuff) wasn't much better.

I haven't even read The Search, but this was funny. Most of the time I just try to forget anything after Sozin's Comet exists in the Avatar world. It makes me a lot happier thinking that way.

This is a really brilliant idea, with tons of interesting points! I really loved reading it, but with Ursa, I'm with the minority, feeling that she was more of a victim. Ursa is getting a lot of hate because of The Search.

I loved your brothers line, and I had the same exact idea about Ursa. The idea of a first happy, then broken marriage would have been a more interesting plot line.

This made me chuckle quite a few times. I completely agree that everyone's situations and choices are completely absurd in the comics (less so in The Promise, but still wacky). The "lost brothers" part was hilarious btw. Thanks for the laugh. :)

I don't think I like this story very much. Everyone is so wangsty that it really feels out of character. If this took place around the first or second season, their behavior would feel so much more in character, but by the time the comics rolled around, the characters really matured a lot, so this story really isn't sitting well with me. I barely got through the first few paragraphs before I decided to just stop reading. Sorry.
