A charming story, thanks for writing it.
It can be a problem of fanfiction that particularly Luke and Lorelai are written more like 14 year olds than the adults they are. Of course, it's also a problem with ASP. You'll see that Rory is often more mature in her relationships than Lorelai is. Two examples which come to mind are Rory reprimanding her grandfather for his treatment of Dean and her deciding not to see Logan again because she was a relationship person, not a casual dater.
That said, it did get a little uncomfortable for me when it took so long for them to acknowledge that they would be scared if either of them were missing during a crisis. You wrote a very nice recovery and makeup session.

Love it, love it. A GREAT chapter - wonderful, wonderful Luke. Pre-Christmas should happen every year for Luke and Lorelai. Lorelai can be a little overly childish and she can be a lot unreasonable so I think you've been right on. I loved this chapter- even better than the first! I hope you keep it going!

A great chapter - and your characterization of Lorelai is absolutely correct. She is very smart, but sometimes gets very sidetracked in the ordinary and mundane aspects of life and, like the rest of us, sometimes simply moves forward in her plans without thinking of any consequences, but that is one of the reasons that she has wonderful Luke. And her general robust joy of life is one of the reasons that Luke loves Lorelai. So, it all evens out in the end. Glad that Luke found "replacement" socks and that he had a bit of time to process and therefore clearly and succinctly present his feelings about the smoke/oven/fire/socks/no Lorelai answering to Lorelai - and she so understood. One reason they work so well together. A great writing. Thanks for sharing with us and we look for another timely posting.

For what it's worth, I think this sounds pretty much exactly like Lorelai! I can see her trying to tease or joke her way out of it, before she realized how upset Luke actually was, and then when she saw that he was truly angry and understood that she was at fault (even though she didn't want to admit it) she got belligerent. That's how arguments go!

I'm proud of Luke for taking the time to think and cool down, and then being willing to go back up and explain it to her. This broke their pattern of yelling and stomping off instead of trying to find a solution.

I love that this bad experience turned out to be their first "I love yous." It's great to see them happy and in love and trying to talk to each other honestly.

I love Luke and Lorelai - he is such a wonderful and caring person; his uptake is sometimes a bit slow, but he would do anything for Lorelai. I like the story you reveal behind the story. Thanks for sharing - more soon please.

I'm excited! I remember this! I remember reading it and thinking it was a brilliant idea. It was so sad on the actual show that they had to make up stuff to put in the Luke Box, since we hadn't been treated to hardly any 'couple stuff' with them, other than the drama. I think taking those made up items and explaining their significance in a story is a great idea!

This is a very sweet snapshot of the two of them. Wish the show would have given us more of these warm, everyday relationship sort of scenes.
