Honestly if coming down the stairs to see Severus' abused, malnourished body, Potter Senior should either beat or curse Tobias to oblivion. As an Auror he could say he did it in defense of a minor, it would be real satisfying. This is a great story so far very interesting. Would be interested to read more see how the characters develop and interact.

I like Sirius realizing that he was wrong about Severus and wanting to help him. Although even if he WASN'T wrong about Severus going Dark, he shouldn't ever have bullied him, instead held out a hand in friendship which in turn could/would have helped Severus not to fall for Voldemorts promise of safety and self-sufficiency.

"He doesn't trust you?" Charlus asked, sighing at Sirius' nod. Unsurprising, given how Sirius and James had likely treated the boy. If they thought he was going to go Dark, they would have made his life hell. "And you want me to…?"
- THIS. Does this mean, Charlus KNEW? Knew about how his own son would act? This seems almost like he sort of condones it, even.

Never mind that years of being bullied by staunch supporters of the light (not to mention in his own house he probably wasn't accepted either), coupled with criminal ignorance by the supposed LEADER of the light and abuse at home likely was the VERY reason Severus ever went to Voldemort? Because I don't believe for a moment that canon!Severus was ever dark. He was interested in the Dark Arts, yes, but 1) there are many light spells that cause horrid damage too and 2) interest doesn't mean he wants to use it for torture. No, Severus was desperately searching for protection, for a way to protect himself. For safety and companionship. Voldemort offered it. And I doubt he was openly talking about torturing Muggles for fun when he began recruiting. That likely came long after Severus joined. Too late for him and many other, who probably joined for similar reasons. Not all of them, sure. Some did probably know what they were getting into, but many- like Severus- underestimated the danger. Gravely.

Anyway. Does Charlus think prosecuting a child and bullying him or her is right, as long as you believe said child is 'going to go Dark'?

I like that he doesn't want to turn away now. Merlin knows too many have turned a blind eye to Severus' plight for too long. I am also glad he realizes it's not going to be like "oh we'll take you to Potter Manor" and Severus going like "yes, I'll get my things". I am glad you don't seem interested in a half-assed solution with Severus suddenly all trusting and willing to take what he thinks is pity.

It's more realistic that way if Severus isn't quite trusting enough - yet. No one has ever given him reason to trust them and especially Sirius and James really haven't earned any badge in THAT regard. It would be unrealistic if Severus just believed Sirius now. And Charlus is an adult- with how he has been treated by adults all his life it's no wonder he has difficulties trusting him. They have to proove it to him, that they really mean to help. Over and over. And Severus will need therapy. Lots of it. Just getting away from his father won't be enough. He'll be vulnerable and it'll be easy for new abusers to take his father's place. His self-esteem and self-worth is completely ruined.
He won't know how to behave in a normal/safe setting (in the sense of not having to be in a constant state of "will I be beaten if I do this or that" or "need to appear to be doing something, laziness will be punished" or "don't speak up, don't talk back, don't tell") or how to accept genuine help, to even recognize it.

I'm looking forward how this will continue. And I am all in favour of Sirius remaining Severus' friend.
