By the way, why didn’t her foreign features attract any attention? She’s basically an American (?) in a land of people with Asian features. Wouldn’t her face make people stop and stare? She’s otherworldly, in the literal sense. I expected the villagers to look at her like the exotic girl she is... maybe they would point the size of her eyes, the curve of her chin and nose... things like that.
Imagine an isolated continent in contact for the first time with a foreigner... a girl with a face different compared to what they’re used to.

Skylar is too hard on herself. What she did was self defense. If she hadn’t attacked them back they would’ve hurt her more. If she had just taken that beating lying down, then those boys would have hurt her further. I don’t think she deserved any punishment. She only knocked him unconscious. Why are they giving them equal punishments, when her actions are not equal to the severity of his actions. Only the boy should’ve been punished, his actions caused the scenario and two people got seriously hurt because of it. They don’t seem to recognize that the boys serious actions with intent to harm were unprovoked, while Skylars was provoked, with self defense, and with the defense of an innocent family member. You cannot throw stones at someone with serious intent to harm and not expect them to react back. Her being punished as well seems like victim blaming to me. The boy deserved what Skylar did to him and yet Skylar did not. An unjust situation here.

Oooh this is a really good story. I hope to read more!
