Poor Jim. Poor poor Jim. I've seen this storyline many times over and it never fails to crush me. Jim is so innocent, he wouldn't ever hurt anyone and he always gets hurt instead. He needs a Spock to be with him in the rough patches and to hold him in the dark times. I think you're doing great and congratulations on the Ph.D. work. I hope it goes well for you. I hope you come back to this as it has the potential to be a very powerful story of recovery, especially if you throw them to the wolves of Kirk's emotions. Imo you don't need to dwell on what happened on Tarsus as that would be the easy road, but rather on Kirk's seesaw of emotions and how it manifests in his actions. Could be fascinating.

I knew their first time would not be easy as Jim hoped it would. Those issues don't go away, they must be aired. Hopefully Spock will not be so freaked about Jim's reaction that he will be too shamed to deal with things instead of bury them. Both of them shutting each other out would be a real disaster and the breaking of their relationship.
Here's to perserverence and faith in their love for each other.
