Reviews for An Overdose on Optimism
IRENKA the pole chapter 3 . 7/27/2013
So i read the from the first drabble thing and i very much enjoyed it. I often find myself only reading certain couplings and though I do love Severus very much i never venture to read his fanfictions. I like how you keep the chapters short and i like how you put the thought process behind the characters. The only thing i would suggest fixing is that it seems a little fast paced for the beginnings of a fanfic. Alot is happening in the first three chapter but thats just my opinion. You might not be i to dragging out fanfics to 10-25 chapters and thats cool because short fanfics make just as good of an impact as long ones. So in all i liked it and will continue to read.

I really like how you're handling this AU. I don't think I've ever read a Gryffindor!Severus before. I really like how this detail might change his and Lily's relationship. Sev's thoughts about Gryffindor maybe not being /so/ bad is nice, but I'm glad he sees that James and Sirius are still being jerks. Lily's reaction and standing up for the other kids is lovely. And the ending is adorable. Sev being proud of her is too cute. Nice use of the prompt as well. It's very fitting for Lily :)
Nice job!

Poor Severus. D: I like that his opinions about the houses aren't necessarily because of prejudice, but his own ideas, which seems valid, especially since he was a very smart kid. It's also an interesting idea to consider in terms of sorting - that had the hat been able to recognize the way that he could change over the years, perhaps he would have been able to be in the same house as Lily. Nice job with the chapter :)

Aw, this was really sweet. I liked that you mentioned that Severus wasn't particularly into his family's politics and how you noted his dislike of his father, because it seems way more rooted in his dad being a crappy person rather than prejudice towards muggles. I also thought that the moment towards the end was really sweet, where Severus noted that he felt lucky to have met Lily. In my head I always imagined that Severus always adored her, so this was awesome. :)

Good job!

I bet the hat sensed Sev's bravery :D

I rarely read fic from this timeline, but this is unique enough that it may just be worth it. I am curious to see what you do with the story. I hope it goes well for you.
Winter Leigh End chapter 2 . 7/20/2013
This is very good, each chapter is so short but you pack so much into them. I like that, I hope you keep it up and update soon! :)

I loved your vocabulary and the humour you added in every sentence of the piece - in fact, it was a truly joy to read it. Lines such as these, though not intended to be funny, really showed Snape's wit and made the drabble so much more interesting, as well as showing your capability as a writer:

tch, he was the very scum of Muggles without an ounce of magic, heart or brain in him. Why his mother had married the toad of a man, he would never know.
She had never seen two more arrogant people in her eleven years of life.

However, there were a few spelling and grammatical mistakes and if you correct them, I think it would add wonders to the piece:

instead of calling him out on it [there needs to be a comma here] she chose to treasure it.
He didn't like that she insisted on trying to make things work between their thread-bare family [though - missing word, otherwise the sentence doesn't flow from the previous one]
'Oh, no – there looks like there's someone there. Just the one though.' [It should be - just one though - you don't need "the"

Bit short dont you think?
