Reviews for Papa He'e Nalu
SSALaurenEaster chapter 1 . 6/24/2014
Wow...I loved it. This was incredibly well-written and very touching.

The water had been a family friend long before she was born, she had been told at a very young age. It was only fitting that she learn to travel the cerulean waves for herself. That right there is some great details. I do believe that its true for people who grew up around the water that it is a family friend. I loved the description of the surfboards and I also loved the stories behind the surfboards which represents Kono's life story. Oh the sixth surfboard will represent hers and Steve's story together, that is very sweet!

I'm a little bit late with this but well, anyway, welcome to our little fandom. Hope, you'll find it as friendly and nice as I did. )
This was such a great story and what a unique idea, wonder why nobody before thought about this. It's just so Kono to keep different boards as a reminder of different things. And of course Steve guessed them just right.
Very sweet story, I loved it.
( P.S. I love your name, I'm a huge CM fan too. Lol. )
Halle Alexis chapter 1 . 7/5/2013
I love this couple and I'm so glad to see someone new to the fandom recognizing their potential. I agree with you that there is just something about them that pulls you in and I would love to read more!
AllIsFairInLoveAndWar chapter 1 . 7/5/2013

Welcome to the fandom! I'm so glad that you've joined and have boarded the McKono ship! You are absolutely right in your AN, there is just something so incredibly special about those two. I really hope that it will happen on the show one day, but for now, thank you for writing such beautiful pieces on them! I don't even know how to put in words how much I loved this one shot. You managed to capture so much of Kono's personality and background (which we haven't been given much of), and put a wonderful interpretation through the description of the boards. The details are just brilliant in here, everything from the differences in colors, the stickers on the boards, the little pieces of decoration in her room... beautiful! I truly enjoy what you've done with Steve and Kono's relationship too, especially how much he loves and respects her with his words and gestures. It was so touching how Kono wanted him to help write the story of the sixth board, and his reaction to it was just brilliant.

I hope you're enjoying the show so far and I'm very much looking forward to your future stories with this couple! :-)
TvFanatic97 chapter 1 . 6/24/2013
Hi! Welcome to the tiny fandom...I hope you'll stay!

Anyway, I loved this fic because the stories you attached to each of her surfboards were so plausible that I can easily see her having boards that are of significance to her in her house on the show. I also loved the little details you included, for example the descriptions of her surfboards, from the turtles of her first board to the missing chunk of her third from when she had her accident...it all painted a vivid picture in words of the surfboards.

This was such a short but enjoyable piece, definitely one for the favourites!

I LOVE THIS! You captured the McKono feeling perfectly. Thank you so much for writing this! I hope you write more McKono fics in the future :)
quisinart4 chapter 1 . 6/21/2013
First off, hello, welcome to the tiny fandom, and even tinier McKono part. But I'm so glad you're here and hope you're enjoying marathoning the show, and wow, what a great fic to share with us! It is very rare to find well-written fics for these two these days, so this was a wonderful surprise. Very well-written and you captured these two so pefectly, I felt like I was reading a scene off in the future. You did a great job with Kono's backstory, I felt like it all had to be true because you captured the story of her surfing history so poignantly.

(The water had been a family friend long before she was born, she had been told at a very young age. It was only fitting that she learn to travel the cerulean waves for herself.)

That's lovely! And I adore the description of the board too, with the turtles on it hehe. And the story of how it all ended for her with board number 3, with Chin there for her, and how there was still a chunk of the board missing - chilling. Also, about her losing her virginity on that board haha, but Steve not needing to know that ;)

(His lips twitch at the sight of the zigzag bookshelf above her headboard; it reminds him of a wave, and again, Steve is not surprised at all. On the other side of the room, multicolored origami cranes dangle above her closet door like mistletoe – kiss me kiss me kiss me.)

Wonderful details!

If you ever wanna talk this show (good or bad haha), and this couple (all good and TOO MANY FEELINGS), feel free to PM me. Thank you for this piece and it'd be amazing if you were inspired and had more to share. I love these two so much so thank you for the amazing fic.

This is brilliant! I'm not usually a big fan of McKono fics but the way you wrote it... Amazing. Thanks for sharing!
MaursMill1 chapter 1 . 6/19/2013
First up...wow wow wow, very well done! When I first started to read, I was like 'oh no they're together already!' Cuz I actually like the build up of them getting together but then that quickly faded as your story soon warmed my McKono heart! :-) Its so touching how one of the boards was the one that she had when she met him...awwww & then for her to ask him to help give the last board a story...I was in tears! I literally cannot wait for more...please keep writing. Cuz you have captured them perfectly cuz there is the special connection between them that makes you love them...they are perfect for each other!
jean25 chapter 1 . 6/19/2013
you are very talented, enjoyed your story and take on the surfboards, how very Kono. have to say enjoyed this despite being a huge McRoll fan. also like your crossover story!
jmlane1966 chapter 1 . 6/19/2013
That es a terrific story! I love your style. It's laid back, like Kono, and equally intense like Steve. Such a private moment for them that I felt like I was intruding. Great writing...original...nice dialogue...lively stories. I hope you write more for Steve and Kono, they would make a great couple.

For the record,iI'm not fond of Catherine . She is a little too wishy washy for me.
sky85 chapter 1 . 6/19/2013
