Reviews for On Faith
Grac3 chapter 1 . 6/18/2016
I really enjoyed reading this. Good job talking about Christianity in terms of this fandom.

Hmm. This was really good. It's nice to see the message getting spread. :) Plus I really like Merlin, so of course there's that.

I've been searching for this fic for a couple of months now simply because I forgot to review when I first read it. This is beautiful and it takes the fandom to a corner it, and the show, both failed to represent. As a fellow Christian, I appreciate your courage to post this on a website opened to the evils of the world. Thank you.

This is absolutely wonderful.
I honestly didn't know what to expect when I first clicked on this, because I was a bit worried as to how the whole subject would be broached. You explained it all perfectly and I'm glad that someone had the courage to make the Old Religion and, really, any other religion coexist. It's something I always thought about when watching the show... Obviously, most of Camelot didn't support or believe in the Old Religion but it was never specified what they did believe in.
Anyway, thanks for this piece. It's really, really well done.

Arthur only you would think Merlin was calling you the Lord... *Facepalm *

(Nicely done, and I /finally/ found something that Christian related in this fandom! Yay!)

Emi,
Thank you so much for trying this! Christian centric fiction can be difficult - especially when the fiction in question directly espouses a different religion - but this worked really well, realistic and true to cannon (meaning the who the characters are not the plot) while expanding it at the same time.
Great Job!
God Bless,
Auua
Princess Alyra chapter 1 . 5/18/2013
I thought this was perfect. I think I've only found one other story on here that deals with Merlin's beliefs, and it's a subject I kind of wish more people would write about. Thank you for writing this! And "Did you just call me your God?" was perfect.
Volcanic Plug chapter 1 . 5/17/2013
Thank you very much for this fic! I've always been slightly disappointed that the series made hardly any reference to religion. I think it would have been fascinating for them to bring it up, but I guess they didn't want to be controversial! So thanks for acknowledging it at all!
Your fic's got some great ideas, the old religion has been pretty mean to Merlin! Personally I think back then at least Christianity would have been a bit more severe anyway, but maybe that's because I'm a heathen atheist :-)
So yea, great fic, great idea. I love how you see Merlin's understanding of his own faith change over time and he doesn't just believe whatever because he's been taught to, he actually thinks about it! Thanks very much!

Thanks. This was beautifully done.
Qwerty124 chapter 1 . 5/16/2013
I love how they're all emotional and then Arthur ruins it!
caldera32 chapter 1 . 5/16/2013
Mmmm. I like it. I've been thinking about writing a Christian!Merlin story for a while but haven't had any concrete ideas- mine will likely be a longer story about how he gets there, but other than that I've few plans. Merlin's ideals and methods don't really match up to those the Old Religion seems to show in canon so I think it's believable.
Angel16 chapter 1 . 5/16/2013
Interesting take. I've long said that Merlin is an allegory for Christianity, with Arthur in role of Christ (our once and future King) and Merlin as the Holy Spirit (remaining in the world, waiting for return). There are tons of other parallels, too, and of course, as a true allegory sometimes the characters' roles switch or aren't exact (Gwen is both the Jewish people and the Christians, the undeserving and unfaithful spouse that is raised to a higher status by His love and is always taken back).

Anyway, I could go on, but that's not the point. Thanks for writing and sharing this. It was a perspective I hadn't looked at before.
Guest chapter 1 . 5/16/2013
Wow, thank you for writing an awesome story about our Savior. I liked how you showed Merlin growing in his faith, a true picture of the Christian walk. Good job.:-)
Stealth Dragon chapter 1 . 5/16/2013
That was lovely. And, you know, I could totally see Merlin being drawn to Christianity for the very reasons you've stated. Because the Old Religion really has been nothing but a jerk to him - creating him for a purpose only to go undermining that purpose because it was too impatient.

I can also see Merlin not falling into the "thou shalt not suffer a with/warlock to live" category. In large part because he was born with it and didn't have a choice - in which case he wouldn't be held accountable for what he couldn't help - but also due to this head-canon I have when it comes to religion and worlds where magic not only exists but its existence is extremely important (the gist of it being that "not suffering a witch to live" is actually referring to a particular school of magic, or the way magic is practiced and what it is used for).
