| DetectiveSpaceCo chapter 26 . 7/6 I remember reading this (at the time, unfinished) work back in college and thinking it was one of the greatest things I'd ever read. Having found it again, and finished now, I'm glad it held up to the test of time. Originally, I hadn't even played Mass Effect, or really knew anything about it other than "FPS in Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace!" And I was impressed with how well I could understand the world of this fic, even knowing nothing of the original setting. I'm also still exulting over the use of AI and Uploaded consciousnesses that doesn't fall into the common traps of being way too technical, or of being too...preachy? There's no "but will i be a MONSTER if i upload?" only practical concerns and normal fear of the unknown. |
