romabeachgirl chapter 28 . 8/14 Nice epilogue but fantastic story! It was entertaining, confusing, frustrating, hilarious and unique, all at once. Thank you for sharing. |
romabeachgirl chapter 27 . 8/14 There is not much left to say other than lovely! Also, I teared up when Scarlett admitted still reaching for the phone to call her mom. So true. |
romabeachgirl chapter 26 . 8/14 In a weird way I'm glad that there are only two chapters left to go because there is a greater chance for a HEA. Although, MM manages to create a lot of pain and despair for Scarlett and Rhett in so few chapters. Even though a number of scenes blur in this chapter, they fit the story you've crafted. I'm not sure that Rhett and AW would have much to say tho each other but I like how this was handled. |
romabeachgirl chapter 25 . 8/14 It's interesting that at this point, Scarlett is remembering that day in April. Your rewrite is wonderfully done, as it also references Scarlett's post miscarriage scene. (Just figured that out lol) I hope Rhett is nearby and not to coward to wait for her to call for him. Why does this story have to end ? |
romabeachgirl chapter 24 . 8/14 Where is Rhett? Nothing wrong can happen with Bonnie AGAIN? Let's just say that the pony scene guts me every time, even though it's clear from early on what will happen in canon. Gerald, no! Oh, and Scarlett has to be alive. Geez! What a wallop of emotions has been produced in this chapter. I knew it wouldn't be boring... |
romabeachgirl chapter 23 . 8/14 Should I be happy that both Scarlett and Rhett have uttered those magic words? Should I be sad that Rhett is leaving? I'm not sure. What I do know is that before I read the final chapter, you will manage to pleasantly surprise me once again. As to your note about Scarlett, it's clear to me that the Scarlett post miscarriage is a different person than we met on page one. There are growth, understanding, and empathy in her. A MM sequel Scarlett would have acted differently, and that's probably why I can stand an OOC Scarlett in fanfics. I'm not saying yours is OOC but that she is showing some of those changes. For me, everything about this story and the development of the characters works. |
romabeachgirl chapter 22 . 8/14 I must admit that at the beginning of the story, some of the chapters felt a bit disjointed. It very much felt like modern vignettes of GWtW. But in the last few chapters (since before the flashbacks) it has really started to flow differently. The story and not the episodes became clearer, at least to me. Now, with roughly six chapters left to read, I don't want this story to end. And I have to agree that Scarlett O'Hara is the FIRST and FOREMOST American survivor. We can definitely all agree on that. Whether it is to be PC or an age factor, the NYT review was wrong. I can't tell you how many times in my life that I have read a book that makes GWTW references illustrating Scarlett's fierce determination to survive (or just get references in general). I think so many characters stem from Scarlett and Rhett...anyways... Have I mentioned how much I'm enjoying this story? :) |
romabeachgirl chapter 21 . 8/13 I loved the library obscene flashback, but Rhett walking in on mother-daughter time was precious. It was adorable that Bonnie was wearing her mother's dress to play, and I absolutely loved that Bonnie only hit the wall once. She still seems in character and is actually less spoiled than in canon. Scarlett seems much more motherly but still retains much of her personality. |
romabeachgirl chapter 20 . 8/13 "I've fallen." I could leave my review with just those two words, but I can't. Despite the spy angle of this story, you've managed to unearth and articulate some incredible truths about Rhett in this chapter. I may have been holding my breath as I read that section. Exquisite! My only quarrel was the "rape." In canon, I don't see it and never have or will, but I respect your interpretation and how you've incorporated the idea into your story. I'm not sure that it's such a smart move for Rhett to teach Scarlett how to handle a gun...he can infuriate her at times :) |
romabeachgirl chapter 19 . 8/13 I feel like I've been punched in the gut. You write Rhett's cruelty towards Scarlett in a way even MM would be envious of. I can justify some of Rhett's words and actions in canon, but there is NOTHING redeemable about this man in this story. I think you've done a marvelous job of clearly illustrating who Rhett is. I'm wondering why Scarlett would sleep with him following that exchange (even years later). I can't believe I'm writing this, but Scarlett may be better off without Rhett. Period. Gulp. Yikes. |
romabeachgirl chapter 18 . 8/13 There are so many great tidbits of GWtW in this chapter. My thoughts on Melanie have changed over the years, but I'm glad that Scarlett has come to appreciate Melanie and in connection with the events of this "messy" chapter. I love Melanie's defence of Scarlett but hopefully her mention of the four letter word will alter the outcome for A and R. I certainly hope that Rhett has not taken off for a three month jaunt. |
romabeachgirl chapter 17 . 8/13 The flashback was cute, and it did answer some lingering questions I had, but I'm still not buying the fact that Rhett wasn't more persistent with Scarlett about Bonnie and his role in her life. Hopefully, the next few chapters will bring some satisfactory answers even as Scarlett agrees to his parental rights, and I did notice that you may have alluded to some issues in your author's note. Hmmm... Scarlett does seem a bit more agreeable in this story but she still is a bit ignorant of Rhett and his intentions. I can't figure out if it's to do with the storyline or the fact that Scarlett is usually oblivious to what's going on right in front of her. |
romabeachgirl chapter 16 . 8/13 This is easily my favorite chapter in this story. The cruelty, hurt, honestly, passion and confusion of the original shine through this modern interpretation. I also like the twist of Scarlett leaving... |
romabeachgirl chapter 15 . 8/13 I'm glad that Scarlett has globally realized her feelings for AW, but she needs to cut him out of her life entirely if she is to be happy. The Archie/Elsing/paparazzi bit was hilarious, although being caught in canon by Archie and India etc. was pretty much the same thing! It doesn't surprise me that AW is running for office. It sort of fits his character... I can't believe Scarlett would date Charles. Yuck! The only part I'm a bit skeptical of is Rhett's seemingly limited involvement in Bonnie's life, but maybe that will make a huge difference. I guess we'll find out soon enough how this unfolds. |
romabeachgirl chapter 14 . 8/13 The conversation at Gerald's funeral between Scarlett and Grandma Fontaine is one of my favorite discussions bud sadly, Scarlett doesn't fully digest/heed GF's words. I hope that Scarlett is listening now. I do like how Beatrice is integrated more into this scene. It's odd to see Charles and Stu and others still alive. I think that Scarlett was simply unable to process/grieve all of her lost childhood friends given the sheer volume of their losses at one time and that she was far away in Atlanta when they died. I like how you have her surrounded by family and friends and able to mourn Brent's loss. |
