I've always had a particular distaste for Maddox as the whole plotline that Data needed to prove that he should have rights never set well with me. It still bothers me when I watch it and it seems to be more relevant now than it's ever been. So yeah, I wouldn't shed a tear if Maddox happens to fly out an airlock.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on the story. Yes, I'm aware of Janeway but I wanted to include her in a small way. I foot-noted in chapter one that I had moved certain events around so I could accommodate ideas within the story. For instance, Data wasn't confronted by Maddox until after the episode 'DataLore' but I felt, given Lore's distrust and hate of humans, Maddox would be the perfect foil to push his buttons. So in this story 'Measure of A Man' happened before they picked up Lore. Thanks again.

Well, I supposed if Lore's going to murder anyone else, it may as well be Maddox.

Possibly someone has mentioned this to you already, but Voyager happens towards the end of TNG, so Janeway is possibly not even a captain yet at this point, let alone an admiral.

Also, you're right about Maddox. I remember thinking during the episode how unbelievably lucky that man was that Data was so virtuous, because it would be a piece of cake for an advanced intelligence like Data to take control of the situation in any number of ways if he were so inclined.

I really like your characterization of Lore here. He has much more depth which make his actions more realistic. I'd like to see more Data-Lore interaction.
