I quite loved all three of these stories!

I liked it! this was a very good talk between an uncle and his nephew slash king and heir. I don't know why you didn't like it. Don't doubt yourself it was really good.

I absolutely love this story. Like you, after BoFA I was just depressed. I cursed Tolkien for killing of Thorin and the boys and then cursed Jackson for making it worse with his excellent albeit different storytelling.

Then I cursed Richard Armitage, Dean O'Gorman and Aidan Turner for bringing their A game as our beloved dwarves. Sigh. I'm still not over it but fics like yours help.

Have you read Kaotic312's The Line of Durin and Stolen Heir? Those are excellent as well.

I cried like a baby in BoFA too! I've seen it twice so far. I did hate the lack of Fili time, the romance subplot and I was super disappointed in splitting the Durins up and having then die alone (very against canon there) but overall it was good.

Nice collection of angst/comfort. Enjoyed the three different 'problems'.

i really needed that after battle of the five armies, I don't think a film has ever caught me off guard like that before. I mean, I knew it was going to happen but seriously those deaths were so brutal! No honour or glory or death speech just straight up murder. Needless to say it hurt. ALOT.
ranting aside however this was another adorable chapter that had me grinning like an idiot the whole way through, as always it was a joy to read ;D xx

I like the haltingness at the beginning. It makes me really get into Thorin's mind and some of it just made me laugh. :D Favourite line 'They're Thorin's nephews?' :D :D :D I suppose Bilbo must have thought that when he found out in the movie. ;) Would make sense. Loved this chapter by the way. It was perfect. :)

Having always known most of my family and never having to live up to anything I find it weird that both chapters of this have managed to hit me right in the feels :')

Sorry that DoS wasn't a help - I know a lot of people didn't care for it. I myself didn't mind it but you are right - there are parts that just have me rolling my eyes and thinking "yeah, and that was put there simply for the 3D special effects!", but I was just shaking my head when the credits rolled and told my mother, who has never read the book, that Jackson basically just pitched the book in the garbage can. I told her that while I didn't mind DoS that there was just no way I could even try to defend it against the Tolkien Canon Police. And you are right - there are some things I can understand being changed, but this isn't the hobbit - it's a really fancy, really expensive fan fiction piece in film!

Though, to be fair, it's not the worst version I've ever seen - for that, go watch the 1960's cartoon JRR Tolkien's the Hobbit (not the one from the late 70's/early 80's - I'm talking the very first one ever made - it is BAD, let me tell you! *grins*)

*sigh* but of course, the last movie, though Jackson will change everything else, I've already resigned myself to his keeping one thing of canon intact, because what movie director could miss such an angsty, emotional moment? *grumbles* The ONE bit I'd rather change, and in fact, have completely convinced myself WAS changed and which I absolutely refuse to accept as canon...*grins*

Anyway, I love seeing these bits in the relationship of Thorin with his nephews - you do a really good job of keeping Thorin's majesty and gruff personality intact while at the same time showing his love for his nephews - and why they loved him so much in return. I do hope the muse becomes a little more helpful soon for you - I definitely know all about writer's block and how terrible it can be!

I didn't read Tolkien, so I don't really know what being a ranger include... Is it hunting, tracking, patrolling, acting as foresters?
I wouldn't mind some OS with Kili creating chaos during a diplomatic visit
I like your two OS since they give the both of them depth that you can't really see in the movie, except when Kili's hurt...
