You are now my favorite person ever. This fic is SO GOOD. I've been playing FO3 and absolutely craving some fic for these two. This hit the spot exactly!

Wish I'd known this story existed sooner. I've been wanting fic of these two for so long...I feel like my life is now complete. XD

I'm ashamed that it took me this long to come back and read the whole of this story (I haven't been reading Fallout fic for a while) but I'm so, so glad I did. I love this origin story for Flak and Shrapnel and it is probably the one that will be in my mind whenever I think of them from here on.

Both characters feel very much like themselves while clearly years younger than when we meet them in game. I enjoy the little details that indicate an earlier time: Flak's long hair, "Mama" Sparkle, a pre-Eulogy Jones Paradise Falls.

The scene in which they find the books is what really hooked me, and it was from there that I couldn't stop reading.

Flak and Shrapnel are the best canon gay couple (the game marks them as family, so they're pretty much MARRIED as far as the programming is concerned) in Fallout 3, in my opinion, and I spent a good few nights after encountering them just wondering how they met. So reading your take on it is pretty much the best thing ever.
The music fits perfectly (and I'll probably pop on over to Ao3 to say so), and now whenever I listen to those songs, I'll be thinking of this fic!
