Sigh...like you & so many others, it was Alice and Uncas who captured my attention in the movie. Every time I watch it I keep, ridiculously, hoping for a different ending, or at least that I will catch something between Alice and Uncas that I missed the first 15 times I watched it! So thank you for writing such a moving piece.

OMG this was so great! It gave a sense of closure to the awful ending of the movie. I hadn't thought of this idea, and it was a perfect ending to the real story. If they would have included this in the movie as a short scene, I would have been satisfied when I saw it way back in 1992. But since then, I have wanted it to end differently. Some of the stories I have read here that have Uncas living are great, and that is really what I wanted to read, but this is so much more beautiful! Thank you for writing it. I skipped over it the first time through the list, because at first sight it looked like a poem the way it is formatted. I didn't want to read poetry, but after coming back to this much later, I saw it was more of a story. The formatting is unique and now I love it! This is one of my favorites!

Lovely story. It is hopeful to imagine the happiness these two will finally have in the afterlife.

I really really LOVED this! It's perfect... that's the very way I imagined the encounter between Uncas and Alice in the afterlife. It's so moving that Uncas thinks he won't see Alice again because she will move on with her life and then finds that's not true. It moved me, it really moved me. As I said that's really perfect!
