This is really a good fic! And your guess about the conscription process is pretty good. I understand that men had to register for a draft lottery, and if they got called up, they could pay ($250 - $300) for a replacement to take their place. That late in the war, there wasn't a lot of "shaming" about not signing up, especially since being a reporter was an important job. It's often said that the North fought The War with one hand tied behind its back. The losses were terrible, it's true, but they don't compare with what England, France and German suffered in WW1.

Again, enjoying this tremendously!

To "get one's own back" means to get revenge... the Master wouldn't be "getting his own back", all those who suffered under him would.

Maybe I am dumb for feeling sorry for the aliens, maybe I am, but damn, i do feel sorry for them (or at least the guy that didn't want to conquer earth and fight a dumb war to try and reconquer his homeplanet)

I haven't seen much of the 10th doctor so I can't comment on how you've handled all of that, and to be honest, I more see Matt Smith in my mind when the word Doctor appears because that's mostly what I've seen, but I've really enjoyed this story. And I also love stories that give Molly Hooper a chance to grow. On to the sequel!

Chapter 44 and 45 are duplicates. At the beginning you mention "after the incident at Baker Street." Since there was nothing in Sound of the Drums Part One about Baker Street, I'm assuming it was Part Two that was omitted and Part Three that was put up twice.
