Guest chapter 5 . 3/14 Good! |
birdlady chapter 5 . 12/2/2017 This... Was... Extraordinary! While I personally think Sherlock & John are each the missing half of the other's heart (yes, I'm a silly romantic); I do understand their friendship. Someone once told me friends are the siblings we choose to have. They were right. |
dreamspell chapter 5 . 1/30/2016 This deserves more reviews. It's too good to only have 20-something. So... I think I've read it before and managed to lose it, so I'm glad I found it again. It's really well-written and I like the humour - but Pluto was extraordinary. I love the deal he made with John, that neither of them will be left behind next time. And I also appreciate that it had a happy ending. Orpheus and Eurydice was a bit of a downer. |
Esther Kirkland chapter 1 . 12/10/2014 To the guest review below [because you can't reply to anon reviews] Yes, this is based off the myth of Eurydice and Orpheus. And yes, I don't write slash. To cut a long explanation short (because it's midnight-thirty and I'm exhausted, and I already typed this up once and FF deleted it - go figure) romantic love is not the only sort of love. And while the myth is originally about a husband and wife, it fits a greater archetype: "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" and "greater love has no man than this: that he lays down his life for a friend." Retellings are great because you can do whatever you like with them. To me, in this setting, this is not a romantic story any more than Disney's Sleeping Beauty is a story of rape and attempted cannibalism, though they were in the original tale. Disney gave us their retelling of an old story that fit with the tale they wanted to tell. I have attempted to do the same thing here - fairly well, I would like to believe. But if you honestly see something in here that's slash-worthy, drop me a line and I'll see if I need to change it. I try to avoid writing anything that one can read with their slash goggles even on the lowest setting. :) Essie |
Guest chapter 5 . 12/9/2014 I thought you didn't do slash? Isn't this based on a romantic story of a husband going after his wife? _ |
They-Want-Me-To-Tap-Dance chapter 5 . 11/29/2014 So this mimicked the tale of Orpheus and Eurydice, only with much happier results. :) |
Random Flyer chapter 5 . 1/30/2014 I enjoyed this, and I'm glad it didn't end the same way as Persephone's story did. |
TheEbonHawk chapter 5 . 1/20/2014 I was about ready to throw things along with John. |
NightFuryofGallifrey chapter 5 . 10/9/2013 Ooookay. Wow. This was... really, really neat. Greek mythology isn't my strongest area of knowledge, but this was /fascinating/. Really. Wow. O_O I really love your writing style... I didn't notice I was reading. And since I read most of it in a not-very-comfortable position, that's saying a LOT. John was VERY in character, he felt very right. Especially how he felt like he had failed, to save Sherlock, stop him from jumping, and at the one point, failed to bring him home. (Which nearly gave me a heart attack, I'll have you know. Did not see that coming.) I really really enjoyed this, and I will definitely be checking out some more of your stories when I have the time! :D Great job! hannah! |
Gracie Holmes chapter 5 . 6/9/2013 Really enjoyed this one. You were very descriptive and detailed. It tugged on emotions and made me grin at the end. I read both yours, and the story it was inspired by. And I loved them both. :) |
I'm Nova chapter 5 . 6/8/2013 Thank God you put things right! Last chapter I did not review because I thought you'd pulled an Orpheus/Eurydices on them and honestly leaving a review full of the worst expletives I know seemed not the thing to do. ;-) Love this. One of your favorites and one of mine too. So very good. |
bruderlein chapter 5 . 6/8/2013 Great story, I've really enjoyed reading it.. and I really like how they are explaining it with Sherlock faking his dead, thus mixing the canon with your universe :) |
Coquillage Atlas chapter 4 . 6/7/2013 Sorry about the prev review - stupid phone slipped. What I meant to say is: I really liked this piece, and not only because of your characterizations, but also because of your use of Greek mythology! That was really fun. And Pluto was suitably creepy - loved the tears. And I was soo relieved that the ending was happy - I was afraid you were going to follow through w the myth and let Sherlock stay in the Underworld, because John had looked back at him. But yay! That was very nice of you. Great job! |
Coquillage Atlas chapter 5 . 6/7/2013 I loved this one! Grim in the right places, joyful at the end... And I l |
batgirl3141 chapter 5 . 6/7/2013 Uwa I liked it :3 |
