Well, honestly, for a crossover, good storytelling is not making any attempts to "balance" the forces in the crossover. However, for a crossover as lopsided as "I can glass planets with one ship" Star Trek and BB gun Mass Effect...yeeeeaaahhhh, lol. No, really, look at the kilotons of a Starfleet ship's phasers. They're basically smaller, but just as powerful, versions of a Covenant energy projector.
