My, my, my. This is quite a mood shift from the first chapter, eh? At first, I thought this was going to be a lighthearted take on Judal and Kougyoku's relationship and it kinda was until Kougyoku started dungeon-questing. It's funny how two chapters ago, Judal was afraid/thrilled when she jokingly said how she was going to turn out like him but at the end here, Kougyoku herself realizes that she only sought the things he desires because she wanted his approval. It's kind of a punch to the heart, I think, to see that power was the basis of their relationship all along (but very appropriate). But not the kind of strength that was strong enough to uphold their friendship. And from there, your words encapsulated this downward twirl but those moments were my favorite because they moved me; I felt the crumbling of their friendship right there and then. You really caught Judal's flippancy and Kougyoku's constant search for a place of her own. Aah, I look forward to reading the one-shot sequel you had planned.
