de junco chapter 6 . 9/10/2016 Wow, I really loved reading this! I think I've seen the idea of Rin being a sleeper agent brought up once or twice in different fics, but never explored as thoroughly as you've done here. And though I don't usually ship Rin/Obito, this fic was really great in how it depicted their relationship. Like, I guess I don't usually enjoy (particularly in Naruto, where this is very prevalent in canon weirdly enough) when a person who is canonically clearly uninterested in another is written as being in a relationship with someone who has an unrequited crush on them (coughNaruHinacoughSasuSakucough); it often seems like the person with the crush is being rewarded just for having a crush, regardless of whether or not the other person actually likes them. And I've seen that before with Rin/Obito fics, but I think you really nicely avoided that with how you wrote Rin. She's calculating and rarely shows her true emotions, but Obito was a factor that she didn't consider, and yet somehow he wormed his way through her defenses and make space for himself in her heart. And yet she couldn't really show him any deeper affection because 1) she already had set up her "crush" on Kakashi, and 2) it wouldn't mesh well with the character she was trying to present. I think the romance between their older selves will be particularly interesting, if only because they've both grown and changed so much in the interim (on the whole for the worse, unfortunately; though perhaps Rin had more introspection time to grow), and their attempts to navigate their way through a relationship as they try to reconcile what they remember of each other with what they are now would probably be both very painful but also complex and fascinating. But yeah, I just really enjoyed how you wrote her character here, and disabused both the audience and Obito of the notion that she is a flawless pure cinnamon roll, but rather has a dark and cruel past formed on lies that somehow didn't prevent her from finding a place where she belonged and where she could better herself. Thanks for writing! |
