ahhhh nooo I love this fanfic!
I really love it, a great job, too bad you don't continue it!

I'm greatly enjoying the fact that Snape isn't miserable and that the mind magic book provided a sound reason for his being different from canon.

Just in case you're still there and looking for ideas, I'd like to see Snape sit on Potter hard for picking on people and also decline to take part in all the misbehavior. In particular, I can't possibly see Snape, who's gone hungry most of his life, as a participant in a food fight. He'd be badly hurt just to see that much food wasted.

Other things I'd like to see:
1. Snape helps his mother escape Tobias. Ideally, Snape's accidental magic could kill or cripple Tobias with the Ministry none the wiser since no wand was used. Muggle police would not be able to detect (or suspect) many kinds of magic.
2. Snape uses many more of his Slytherin traits, highly developed because of the abuse, to achieve his ends. He's rather overdoing the Gryffindor bit right now. Bravery doesn't ~have~ to be reckless just because Potter and Black are. Snape needs to use that brilliant mind to think and plan more.
3. Re. thinking/planning, Snape makes a point of making friendly acquaintances of some students outside his House, including Slytherins who do not support Riddle. Not to aim for Mr. Popularity, which in any case he'd hate, but for being mildly well-thought-of by a few dozen and under the radar of most. Given his brain, this could most easily be achieved by his willingness to provide some academic help.
4. Snape excels in Herbology as well as Potions: they are so intimately related that it makes no sense for him to be great in one and mediocre, much less bad, in the other.
5. Snape develops his magic much faster without the stress from the Potter gang's harassment and injury, especially with respect to doing silent and/or wandless spells.
6. Just in case you can't tell, I want Snape to come out of this happy.

There's just one problem: Snape's pushing himself off the broom and then falling back onto it is physically impossible - it could never happen.

Once Snape is above the broom, only four results are possible if no one else interferes. He could summon the broom to him (accidentally or not). Absent the summoning, he could grab it and pull it to him if it were within arm's length. Otherwise, if he did really push off, he'd continue to recede from the broom, both falling until the broom hit the ground; or, if he just let go at some distance above it, he would continue to fall at that distance from it until it hit the ground. He could never freefall faster than it did.

Since Snape is in Herbology, a required class in first year, all his House's year-mates must also be in it.

You seem to be dropping more and more periods from the ends of sentences with each chapter. If you're still around, would you ever consider cleaning this up and continuing it?

It should be pointed out that he was not the one going around attacking less privileged, weaker people unprovoked while they didn't expect it and couldn't retaliate, mobbing up in a group to abuse and humiliate a single person. I think that there is cowardice in this picture, but it didn't come from him. He was the victim that fought back against superior numbers, despite the odds, and lived through an abusive home life, only to discover that his haven, rather than being an experience of safety and protection, was only filled with further abuse and turned out to be nearly lethal. Stopped from talking about the traumatizing near death experience, while James spun a tale that smeared him to Lily -and he couldn't set the record straight due to the gag order from the people that should have protected him-, he was forced to endure further years of physical and emotional abuse, without the protection he was entitled to, while his abusers avoided any lasting consequences, never even repenting, let alone attempting to make amends. I would say that the fact he survived is a proof of bravery, and while he was lied to about his prospects, and his choice turned out to be a mistake, rather than a path to a better life as he had hoped, if the supposed "good guys" were the people that routinely abused him -who just happened to end up on the "good" side, but were worse than Draco, etc., certainly in terms of their actions... at least with Harry's generation it was three vs three, not vs one-, or those that laughed at or just didn't care about his suffering and misery.

It should be pointed out that there was never a "maturation" in the sense that the guy was a coward and *then* became brave. He always was as he would be, he was just on the other side -like many others, getting into something that promised to give him power, prestige and a better life, and then discovering that the truth was that he had to deal with a murderous madman, essentially as Sirius described Regulus' and many other people's situation-.
