HyperCLM chapter 25 . 7/28/2016 And now it is the time for the super lengthy final review to the story... and maybe the series as a whole. Um... where to start? Story Review - I didn't exactly expect the intro to amaze me right from the start, since the first few chapters were trying to ease me into seeing one of the same main characters in a previous entry to the Criminal series that sorta-kinda didn't interest me that much, as you can clearly see between the dates I reviewed chapters 3 and 4 - (19 days apart). Yep, I actually lost hope for enjoying this story... (blame me for trying to read this right after dissing Criminal) buuuut, the plot that eventually became to be intrigued me a bit. A guy I KNOW is supposed to be dead by this point being revived, and Mimi falling in love with said guy? Oh hell no am I was going to leave this unturned. Main Plot Part I, AKA Dimentio plots something. There was a crap ton of dialouge but not a whole lot of action, as is expected in a drama fanfic. Lots of arguing and overall grief... in the end, I felt sorry for Dimentio, as your series has done to me so far. I blame his past, which he decided to bring up again. Not too much to discuss other than everyone being rather protective of Mimi due to her owning memories of her abusive relationship with someone... but I'm not even sure if what I saw from Criminal is exactly "abusive..." Main Plot Part II. Enter in the Star Rod plot. And then enter chapter 15 cliffhanger. Ohhh boy. This is where the gears started turning and me wanting to read several chapters in one session out of pure interest. I was always worried about what would happen to Dimentio and Mimi and was hoping that they would be safe. It was rather glowing to see Mimi always try to keep Dimentio sane...for I would rather never see him go insane ever again. It saddens me every time. Hell, the most "evil" thing he does during this story is nearly murdering the hell out of Mr. L. I'm rather surprised and a bit glad you decided to actually quell a bit of Dimentio's madness via Ghost!Timpani's return to explain her reasoning and feelings towards the one choice that kinda destroyed him. Okay then. (((Ignore this next paragraph, I'm just rambling))) And Nastasia. I was shocked that it was her who decided to go after the Star Rod in an effort to murder Dimentio out of grief and revenge. Though, it's not THAT far-fetched for her to want to murder Dimentio in any way possible. Ugh, the tragedies never end, do they? We're just lucky that the cycle of revenge finally ended where it did. . . . because I don't feel like Dimentio deserves to have his life cut short again. ...along with that, Nastasia looking very similar to Timpani in chapter 24 does not bode well with me at all. (And I was so close to putting her on the unforgivable list for bringing back a shadow of one of my personally most hated characters in Mario fanon history! I still fucking hate his guts! ...but I can't 100% hate him for realizing his errors and for what Lucifer's shadow said at the end of it all...) All in all, I genuinely enjoyed this fanfic, even if it got a tad bit tiring. It's not nearly as tiring to read as Criminal but I would still say My Fair Lady is the best of the three... However, unlike My Fair Lady, it's not trying to make me hate over 70% of the main characters, for it was focused more towards Mimi x Dimentio and Mimi's overall feelings towards that. Likewise to My Fair Lady, though, you got me to care about the story along with the main characters. And to me, that's what makes or breaks a story. So this entry in the Criminal series gets: 2nd. Blame my bias towards Lady Timpani, as her inclusion in My Fair Lady was what introduced me to this series as whole. And I'm sorry if you felt like I'm rambling and repeating some stuffs from before. Have a good day. Series Review - Excellent series, even if I personally feel like one of the entries felt relatively boring to the others. It wouldn't be too out of place from official Super Paper Mario canon at all, for the game itself didn't provide much of what you personally did: extending the depth of characters we have previously known before reading this series, and providing some backstory about said characters. And then you decided to bring an end to the conflicts the series has presented in a very nice and (mostly) tragicless fashion, similar to the ending of Super Paper Mario with a tad more certainty. I like that similarity. Now, I saw very little glaring problems that I can entirely blame on you, as part of my disinterest was that Mimi was the main character-ess for like 2 installments. However, A Cruel Demon's Fate showed me that a lengthy Mimi x Dimentio story can indeed work without boring the hell out of me. At the same time, you have given me a bit of a newfound respect for Dimentio, a type of respect that the game wasn't exactly able to provide. It was a long time coming, but I'm glad I finished reading this series. Thank you for writing these stories, Shadowclanwarrior. |
HyperCLM chapter 24 . 7/28/2016 Fight scenes are described well enough that I can imagine what is going on, but doesn't drag on for too long. I like that. The final battle felt... relatively final, considering previous battle scenes from before. Dimentio: Bye bye fear. You're done toying with me forever. |
HyperCLM chapter 23 . 7/27/2016 Bow treating Dimentio the way she has been lately worries me a lot to the point of cringe. Ugh! |
HyperCLM chapter 22 . 7/27/2016 I'm kinda, sorta surprised Dimentio isn't holding grudges against Timpani. I always thought he was. Then again, Mimi once got pissed off at Dimentio for comparing everything in their relationship to his former relationship with Timpani. Onto Dimentio again... I have never seen Dimentio so hopeless and sad as now. It's depressing. I never thought he would be that type of person to wallow around in defeat like that. I guess his courage finally broke. Just 3 chapters away from the definitive end of this series. |
HyperCLM chapter 21 . 7/27/2016 Mr. L, just shut the fuck up before I'm ready to stab you too. I mean... Everything was going just (barely) smoothly until you had to show up and be an asshole. It maybe have been one of the few times that I legitimately just wanted Mr. L to stop being so fucking arrogant as well... Partly due to Dimentio's sanity slowly shredding into pieces. And I'm getting emotionally tired of Dimentio just going insane because I know too well why he went psycho in the first place... it's unfortunate. Really really unfortunate. Quick question:: can Timpani & Blumiere interact with other Boos? |
HyperCLM chapter 18 . 7/27/2016 What?! What the fuck, Nastasia?! You're the one that brought back one of the demon spawns I will always hate?! |
HyperCLM chapter 15 . 7/26/2016 Uh-oh... Spaghetti-O's! Dimentio is soooo screwed! |
HyperCLM chapter 6 . 7/23/2016 Your feelings and your thoughts can be sooooo lovely at times, aren't they? Honestly, I kinda knew Lucifer couldn't be alive anymore, which is why chapter 3 confused me a bit. When Count Lucifer mentioned a shooting star scene, I automatically knew that Lucifer isn't who he claimed he was. Unfortunately, I looked at the wrong story so I couldn't find said scene where Dimentio was involved with his Bellezza, since I didn't read the line where Dimentio says what he called the girl before searching. I'm sorry. |
HyperCLM chapter 4 . 7/22/2016 No way in he'll would I really like to believe Mimi's infatuated with the devil... Just no. Also... I never ever thought Count Lucifer could be so mysterious-oh wait. It ain't him now is it? |
HyperCLM chapter 3 . 7/4/2016 AND THE DEVIL HIMSELF RETURNS! ...wait, what? I'm confused... |
HyperCLM chapter 1 . 7/4/2016 You're implying that Count Bleck actually- (censored to avoid spoilers from other fanfics)?! no no, this seems...rather too much like a nightmare. But if it wasn't a nightmare, then what the hell, Dimentio?! (Burn the witch!) P. S. Yeah, I can see how seemingly random and confusing this chapter would be as a first chapter in a many-chapter fanfic. :P |
sunstrike chapter 25 . 2/15/2016 Have to say, though, I loved it! It was very well-written and all of the conflicts were addressed at the end. It is a very good series. |
sunstrike chapter 12 . 2/15/2016 I'm with Dimentio on this one. Luigi is being way too overprotective. Why can't he just stick to his own girlfriend? And he had no right to interfere in Mimi's business. I think Mimi handled it pretty well, though. She totally stood up to Dimentio and told him what she thought. I wish she could have just slapped Luigi, though, I'd have loved to have seen the look on his face. |
Mimi fan0-0 chapter 25 . 11/1/2015 Then later in that dimension they ran away to the story of "full moon" was born and they had twins |
RainbowRoses618 chapter 25 . 7/11/2014 This story as well as this series was absolutely amazing! You truly are an amazing writer. |
