Smarter than/almost as smart as Azula. Thank you! So many people (especially the characters) underestimate his mind. Sokka is the quiet, goofy kind of smart (not quiet like Longshot, quiet like you don't notice his intelligence unless you really THINK about it).

I love this, and not just because it coincidentally has the same name as one of my stories. I swear it was unintentional. They're not even anything alike! (Mine features an introspective Yon Rha.) Little Azokka is so cute! (This is also weirdly like an idea my sister had for a fanfic. Okay.)

Really love the nuance of your plots and characters. People like to think of Ursa as kind and good-hearted, and she definitely is compared to Ozai. Doesn't change the fact that she grew up in the Fire Nation and would have a lot of inbuilt prejudices/beliefs about other benders. I like how you represented the tension between her and everyone else in the village and the comments about marriage.

The romance itself was also lovely. One of my biggest issues with Azula-centric shipping is that she seems OOC. You started with a great pivot point-her father dying-that logically explains why she developed differently, but you also showed smaller snippets of the change, though without having that take over the story (where she grudgingly lets Sokka in her heart, where she explains that now she's weak). The small bits of humor were certainly things that Sokka would have said/done in canon. They added to the seriousness of the story, making it a bit funny but not buffoonish.

I love it. The whole premise was impressive, and the execution was fantastic.

I like the idea of awards for choking sounds.

This is an interesting AU.

The quality is good in many areas, good narration, interaction, dialog, suspense, drama and emotion. Some of the grammar and spelling needs work, though its mostly good.

The basic story with Ursa fleeing the Fire Nation and taking her children with her was an interesting beginning- and the reason beyond her actions was good alteration too.

The overall plot with a refugee village in the Earth Kingdom, consisting of Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe and exiled Fire Nation was good.

Your story mostly focuses on Azula and Sokka. I like they’re portrayal. You really captured Azula’s character, though forced to endure the indignity of being a peasant and an outcast, she is still Azula and her sense of strength drives her to be strong in the trying ordeal.

Sokka is still Sokka, a boy trying to be a Man wanting to prove himself.

The chemistry between Sokka and Azula is very believable.

All the other characters: Ursa, Zuko, Katara and others are less portrayal but are still excellent.

The chapter with Azula leaving to join a group of extremists to take down Fire Lord Azulon was dynamic.

Years later, Sokka takes part in the war and meeting Azula again was dynamic, full of depth, complexity and scope.
It was dynamic how Sokka was able to reach Azula and restore peace without resorting to suicide/terrorist plans to end the war.

I said it before, I’ll say it again: the chemistry between them is good.

The various references to culture, art, clothing, ideologies, racism, sexism, supernaturalism, love and redemption are good.

This is what I think of the wholesome standards.
The language is clean.
Nothing is suggestively offensive.
No extreme violence or any other vile content. Certain mature references are passable. Thank you.

I have a few questions. Did Sokka give Hun that black eye? And where is this located? You mentioned grass, so it's not the South Pole.

So instead of the grandfather being killed, it's the father that pays the price. Ozai is no prince, meaning he's no gentleman, but he didn't deserve that. That was the dishonorable way to meet one's end.

As I was casting about for Sokka / Azula fics I'm happy to report I came upon this gem. You nailed Azula's voice perfectly, which is a rare treat. "I. Said. I. Am. Azula. Who. Are. You?" She really does think others are that much stupider than she is, doesn't she? Sokka is just the guy to teach her otherwise.

You pack a lot of plot into a relatively short story. I find this impressive because I find it much harder to write a good short story than a long one.

The imagery of Sokka walking around in the golden collar slave outfit is just priceless. I'm reminded (again probably inappropriately just like in djinn's fic), but this time of Rocky from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. No, he didn't have a golden collar, but he had that ridiculous golden banana sling thing going on and the image just wouldn't get out of my head as I was reading this last chapter.

The genesis of the story is interesting and not fully explored. You put your finger on a critical turning point in the whole series. Did Ozai refuse to sacrifice his son and pay for it with his life as the public treason story suggests? Or did Ursa kill Ozai to save Zuko once it became clear he would obey the Fire Lord? Either way it's an interesting deviation. This story is one radiant of change that could occur from such a deviation. I wonder what else would occur in this AU? I find myself intrigued.

Anyway, yes, while I generally abhor shipping, I confess I like the Sokka / Azula pairing. Well, I'm a dreadful old hypocrite, what can I say? Thanks for sharing this.
