While I like this first chapter, if this is indeed starting during the summer before 3rd year, Harry wouldn't have the Marauder's map yet. That was given by the twins halfway through 3rd year.

For a 12 year old, your Harry was stupid. He does not have his own key to his vaults.

Arrrgh! A cliffie of the highest order...please, oh please update soon! I can only imagine the rage Evan feels towards Hermione for daring to touch London or use his family in an effort to control him, the smug smirk she sent him would have me personally declaring blood feud against her. How dare she think of Evan as something to be controlled for her benefit and his family tools to use.

I love this harry-leaves-the-WW in that he doesn't become some Godlike Warrior bent on revenge towards his betrayers. He is mature enough to leave it all behind and finds if not happiness, then contentment and peace in the muggle world. he hasn't let his bitterness hold him back from reaching for what he wants. Very zen in leaving his anger/bitterness back in London.

Even better is that he has a family which will necessitate a change in perspective when Even is inevitably dragged back into Britian's WW's politics. You showed this wonderfully when Even is faced with the Horcrux issue...without his family he might have been resigned to his death, but now his wife and son are more important than anything, even destroying voldie. As it should be - there is no greater good, there is only what is good for the individual in the sense of protecting rights and preventing abuses and cherishing love.

I also can't wait for you to develop the many hints you dropped during the blood ritual, not the least of which is the grey magic reference and loyalty to the Dear One. Not to one political faction or another in some backwater magical enclave in britian and certainly not to one Albus Dumbledore. Oh, I can't wait!

I'm loving this story. Harry got smart and ran for it and has a life. Let's see what happens when the British Wizarding world tries to take it away from him.

There is no set, hard and fast rule. That said, you shouldn't EVER have a scene that is a single paragraph. Further, I would look in askance at any paragraph more than ten lines. Even if 'technically' correct as a single paragraph...remember rule #1!

I think Sirius etc will be shocked to learn Harry has a girlfreind/wife and a child when Hermione tells them. Considering how famous Harry is is it possible that the american governments magical devision will be keeping watch on teh order members in teh us since Harry can not be forced back to the uk

Certainly hope it doesn't take as long to update again what with leaving off on effing cliffies all the time.
Most readers do eventually get tired of them and don't bother coming back. I know I don't if there are too many.
