Hahhaah this was both cute and funny! Oh Near...so in character, lol. Excellent job with this!

I liked it when Gevanni said "You could hurt yourse-" and how he thought he had to supervise Near. Awwww. XD "Near mode" That was funny at the end when Near said he didn't know how to wash up XDDD

I enjoyed the story, thank you for posting it!
"...would usually have been reluctant to see him anywhere near" - "near"... oh my, I've probably been reading way too much work by Tierfal (wonderful stories where bad puns flow abundantly )!

Some constructive criticism:
Actually it did seem a bit too much like a recipe to me. If I were you I wouldn't actually change the baking instructions - to me those detailed descriptions seem to fit Near's analytical style, but maybe a few more of Gevanni's thoughts mixed in.
Perhaps something about that protectiveness he seems to have developed? Or a bit more on what Gevanni thinks about the baking being in stark contrast to Near's usual behavior (it *is* a bit OOC, but if we can notice it, so can Gevanni). (Maybe then the "Drama" classification would make more sense; right now I haven't detected that much drama.)
That bit with the cake being a mixture of L's, Mello's and Near's tastes is great; though I would like to know why he cares - what are his relationships with L and Mello? Is it the canon timeline (with L dead and Mello-Near conflict)?
And I think the other guy's spelled "Rester". Sorry for being a neat freak like that. :)

I loved the idea of "Near-mode"!
And of course you've left me with an appetite for Frosted Choc-Orange Cake - should've expected that when clicking on a story with "cake" in its title... :D [So on another note the detailed instructions are really cool because that sounds like a cake I might be tempted to try myself!]

This story was pretty cutesy. It's a little OOC, I think Near would be a little too preoccupied with solving crime to bake, but you know, he seems to find time for a tonne of other things, and this was fairly in character as far as the actual cooking went XD
