I just read a little book called The book of name signs: naming in American sign language by Samuel . Talking about how your name sign comes from someone else. My son was very hard of hearing for about 2 1/2 years fixed that, I used baby sign for him. Then was told not to sign with him or he would not talk. well 3 years later no talking. I had one mad little boy. I signed to him again. And bam he started saying words. He is a freshman at University and taking ASL as his language for school. His name is Ukiahfox first name! we used the U over his head flicking like a fox ear then down the middle of his face. Half and Half but it is his name given to him by his mum so suck it rules!

I've read this story multiple times, and each time I'm surprised by how much I like it. I have absolutely zero experience with deafness, so it's extremely interesting to read about how it affects a family and the individual themselves. Thank you for writing the story!

I kind of fell in love

This is amazing. I love it so much! Dean's name signs for Sam make so much sense for them. I really like this 'verse i would love to see some more of it! Especially considering the recent episode featuring Eileen Leahy, the badass deaf huntress.

I loved this! I like the way you include elements of the Deaf community and of ASL, even from the way you described some of the signs it felt genuine... so many times sign gets used in a story like it's a direct translation of English, and that always distracts me from the story.

I'd love to read more about Sam hunting, and I'd love to see post-Stanford (would Sam still go to Stanford? I mean, he's still a smarty-pants, so why not?) Deaf!Sam. Well done!
