Fiocchi10 chapter 1 . 10/28/2016 This is so beautiful, actually I cannot find a word to describe how awesome it is. I love it |
Paparoxi chapter 1 . 4/21/2013 I loved this! It was so cute! Btw, about #6, adrenaline is known as adrenaline in the US. I have never heard of epipherine and I'm American. :D |
CherreeSherree chapter 1 . 4/4/2013 Wow, your background information for differences between UK and United States is really impressive! I was thoroughly amazed at this little oneshot! In many fics where Arthur moves to U.S. or Alfred moves to UK, their transition into the new culture isn't touched upon that often. It was really sweet that Alfred kept sticking with Arthur throughout his whole first year of college, and that his family was totally accepting of him and his relationship with Alfred at the end. Amazing work of art you have here! Thank you for the read! |
Thoughtul chapter 1 . 2/7/2013 I loved your story! But there IS something I wish to point out: in #8 for the American way of setting silverwear and using it, if you are left-handed, you can also use the European way . Or at least, that's how my left-handed cousins and friends do... XD |
Hoshi-Naito chapter 1 . 2/2/2013 Cute story, but I can't help but chuckle at some of your notes at the bottom (as I am an American). 1. Yes, not tipping is considered very rude. The only case where that is considered acceptable was if the service was absolutely atrocious (i.e. the waitress completely neglected you, the waiter was rude or hit on you [was flirtatious is a disrespectful way], etc.). I guess it never occurred to me that that isn't standard in other countries as well. 2. Actually, our stupid government is trying to ban guns (which is a complete violation of the Second Amendment of our Constitution). Most Americans aren't trigger happy, we like guns because they mean that we have protection from those who would harm us. Responsible gun owners don't take them lightly, and would never just wave a gun around. 3. Yes, Americans do often pry into others' personal affairs. Most of them are simply curious, and aren't intending to come across as rude, other are nosey and like to gossip. It happens. 4. I actually knew this, so I chuckled when Arthur got offended when Alfred teased him about his diary. 5. Yes, we call it the first floor, and anything beneath that is the basement (B1,B2, etc. on elevator buttons if there is more than one basement level). 6. Actually, most of us do call it adrenaline. Epinephrine is more of a medical term. Stuff like that confuses us too, so don't feel bad. 7. That's really strange. In America, we call them outlets, and power point is the name for slide shows used as visual aids when giving speeches. 8. Hahahahaha! Most people eat that way because of how they're taught to cut and eat their food, but we actually don't care too much about it. I eat with my fork in my right hand and cut with my left hand, because that way I can put the food in my mouth quicker. ;) But no, I don't typically hold my knife whenever I'm not using it, and I only use one when the meat is too tough to cut with my fork. or when I'm trying to pick it off the bone. Proper table manners aren't a high priority to the majority of the population. A lot of food here is simply picked up with your hands. Thanks for the lesson on British mannerisms. It was actually pretty interesting. |
alguien22792 chapter 1 . 1/27/2013 Awww I absolutely love this. I like that although Alfred was all over Arthur at first he didn't like him like THAT. Great story! :D |
lilsis-3 chapter 1 . 1/23/2013 Wait, what, i live in America and Ive always called it adrenaline. I really liked this story and i was really intrigued at the authors note at the bottom |
Boyan chapter 1 . 1/23/2013 Such a lovely and powerfully written story. Halfway through I had to stop for a moment because I felt so distressed over Arthurs situation. But I guess if you get these kind of feelings out of your readers than apparantly you did everything right! Keep up the good work and have a nice day :D |
Sora Resi chapter 1 . 1/23/2013 This was a brilliant read :D I've never been to America (English lass here), but from what I've read I can totally understand Arthur's culture shock. And Alfred's way of getting to know him in the dorms was too cute :3 |
