Reviews for Taught to Hate
Rey Paloma chapter 14 . 1/1
I really appreciate this story. Clark's characterization is nice, and there's some good tension within the X-Men about whether to be nice to Clark or see him as "evil".

I'm a bit annoyed by how stupid characters can be, but much of that is excused by the source material. For example, I hated when the Brotherhood didn't explain Powr8 to the X-Men, instead just answering "we have our reasons," and then fighting. It always bothered me how quick Scott was to jealousy, but... source material.

The writing quality could use a lot of work, though. Typos are understandable, and I didn't see any that made sentences unreadable. There is, however, a severe lack of commas. This chapter has a sentence like "Risty walked down the hallway her hand nearly turning blue..." and it's obviously missing a comma to unite the separate ideas.

Once the grammar is taken care of, then I would focus on compressing the average sentence just a bit. Make sure that the information is relevant, or else that the sentence exists intentionally for pacing. In an earlier chapter, there was a sentence like "Clark walked down the hallway noticing it was empty." The fact that it isn't just "Clark walked down the empty hallway" tells the reader that it's important for Clark to actively notice the empty hallway, rather than the hallway being passively empty. It could lead to a "it's too quiet" moment, or a moment of introspection, but there's nothing.

If that empty hallway matters, there are many directions. I'd personally make it a separate sentence which explained why it mattered. "He noticed he was alone with his thoughts." Or maybe something like "He noticed there was no one around to bother him." If he was leaving the school entirely, you could highlight him doing something wrong, "He stood out, truant, in the empty hallway."

Point being that Clark is essentially the point-of-view character, and readers can learn a lot about a POV character based on what they notice, what they think is important enough to mention.

Uh oh! Mystique is busted! And what's this about Irene being dead? Must be a game she's playing. Are you intending to bring her granddaughter into this story?
SSTR87 chapter 13 . 5/17/2017
You threw away a golden opportunity to crossover with canon Smallville. But I am curious about the Superman and Lara world. Sounds intriguing.
SSTR87 chapter 12 . 5/17/2017
Finally! I'm so pleased with your Clark! I've been a fan of the anti hero, and I hate when people get all preachy about killing evil murderous monsters.
Clark revenge was beautiful and I love that he played him.
SSTR87 chapter 10 . 5/17/2017
Well you caught me napping. I assumed insect queen was an original idea. Either way, the fight with Pete was unexpected. You'd think Clark would realize, even if Pete tattled there is no way Moss could arrive in five hours to secure the home and hold his parents hostage.
SSTR87 chapter 9 . 5/17/2017
Oooh, Insect Queen sounds fascinating and I'm eager for Clark and Jean to patch things up.
SSTR87 chapter 5 . 5/17/2017
Nice chapter, lots of action and you're incorporating several of the coolest females from the Superman genre!
