So having binge-read The Cursed Earth, I had to come here and read this too. There is no way this little story should have so few reviews. It ties in with your Cursed Earth story perfectly and makes me wish even more that we could have an ending to that.
As I said on your other fic, I love this tortured interpretation of Dredd and his conflict about his brother. Your portrayal of Rico is sinister and leaves me wanting to know more about their relationship.

I really like this - a great little character study. It draws heavily from the comics, of course, but also draws from the movie (and not just in terms of the reference to Peach Trees and the events of the movie). The comic book Dredd never seemed to be impacted by Rico, except when he was right there in the comic with him, but the movie Dredd seems like he would be impacted by that. He seems - even though this is paradoxical because he says so very little - to be more human than the comic character.

Rico's personality comes through clearly here - we can see the drive which forced him to become the man we see in the comics when he tries to kill Dredd. You really explore that madness and illness well - great stuff. I enjoyed reading this.

This is great, you convey the tension between love/loathing/self-loathing that both brothers feel really well. And the "reward" for good conduct sums up the godforsaken shitholery of Titan nicely.

Just got around to reding this now. Wow. Rico is one creepy dude. Your depiction of him as resentful of Dredd and tortured, deep down reflects really nicely off of how Dredd feels about him. Great writing too! :) x

This is the perfect tie-in for the Cursed Earth. It helps a lot to understand Joe's personality and feelings and also know how will both react when they meet again :)

Ich bin so frei und schreibe auf Deutsch, weil ich mir dann Ärger mit der Tastatur erspare... (Nicht, dass ich die Englische nicht beherrschte, aber mein Laptop mag das nicht so ganz.)

Deine Geschichte ist wirklich gut, und, was ich sogar noch besser finde, dein Stil ist es ebenfalls. Ich weiß (wie bereits gesagt) nicht viel über Judge Dredd und seine Welt, aber dein kleiner Einblick hat ein Fenster geöffnet, durch das ich gerne auch weiter schaue.

Rico scheint ein ziemlich interessanter Charakter zu sein... Und das sage ich, obwohl ich zu denjenigen gehöre, die eigentlich die "Guten" in Filmen und Büchern deutlich lieber mögen als die "Bösen". Irgendwas von natürlicher Ordnung? Was mich fasziniert ist sein vollkommen "ausgerichteter" Charakter, den du ihn wiederspiegeln lässt, dieser komplette Fall. Er hat etwas getan was er nicht als Falsch erachtete, was allerdings dazu führte, dass er hinter Gittern landete. Und Reue scheint er keineswegs zu verspüren, sondern lediglich Rachegelüste gegenüber seinem "Bruder". Und diese weisen Abgründe auf.

Die Informationen, die zwischen den Zeilen eingestreut sind, sind sehr praktisch für mich als Nicht-Kenner, und faszinierend im Hinblick auf die Beziehung der beiden Charaktere. Die Umstände und ihre Beschreibung sind sehr eindringlich, sehr lebendig und sehr gut. Ich mag die Art, Fragen mitten im Fließtext zu stellen, manchmal weiß man nicht genau ob es laut gestellte oder gedachte Fragen sind, obwohl das eigentlich deutlich an den Satzzeichen war, aber es unterstreicht den Punkt um (oder eher die FRage nach) Ricos Wahnsinn sehr deutlich. Er könnte einem wirklich Angst machen.

Am besten gefallen hat mir der Abschluss. Die andere Hälfte, der gute Bruder. Es war ein perfekter Schluss und Kontrapunkt zu Ricos Halbwahnsinn, Halbgenialität. Ängste, die nicht aus der Luft gegriffen sind... Dinge in der Zukunft, von denen man nie sagen kann, wie realistisch sie sind.

Eine gute Geschichte, rundherum.
