Love the story! What is the next story in the series?

Hi! I just wanted to say that I love your stories about Stephen and Peter! They are absolutely wonderful and fantastic!

Just finished reading this story, and I must say, I am certainly impressed!

Just a few things I'd like to point out, though:

(1) The whole story could have been broken down into separate chapters. It was a bit difficult for me to figure out where one scene ended and another scene began, because they all kept flowing right into one another without some sort of spacing or other symbols separating the scenes.

(2) It's a known fact that Spidey doesn't approve of guns or of killing. That he'd let the Shadow's M.O. slip by so easily...it's out of character, even for him.

Other than that, great writing!

I am impressed by how well this incorporates with The Shadow fiction by "Scarlet", and was totally pulled into the story.

As I mentioned in my review of "Who knows what Evil" by Scarlett : For those who would "dis" the movie, to please bear in mind that "The Shadow" of Maxwell Grant's magazine and books is different than that of "The Shadow" of the radio program. "The Shadow" of the 1994 movie drew from the best of both worlds, and "The Shadow" of Scarlet and Stephensmat is a wonderful extension of that world of the movie, brought into modern day with a modern day hero!

Very interesting. Peter seems out of character in a few places (not having a problem that the Shadow kills, accepting his fate as an agent too easily), but well written enough to keep me reading.

A suggestion I have is that you give us a better idea of where in the Spidey timeline this takes place. I for one, would like to know where MJ is. :)

One of the best of what is a consistently high-quality series. One of my two favorites, along with Trading Places.

Great job on characterisation. Jameson, Peter and Stephen are all brought vividly to life. The story really sets the scene nicely for a great crossover pairing between a hero of the current era and the heir to the legacy of a classic hero.

Loved the insight into the way the minds of the two heroes worked, especially during their cat and mouse with each other. Both Stephen and Peter thought their way to or almost to the other's dual identity. The scenes where Stephen studies Peter's photos are great, really showcassing his ability to reason, while Peter' really shows off his research skills a bit later. The cat and mouse action between them, both mentally and physically was lots of fun and was nicely emphasized by the alternating perspectives which allowed both charactrs to showcase their skills.

Once the secrets are revealed the two continue to learn about each other and build what appears to be a stable and lasting foundation for a very appropriate partnership. I hope the distrust we occasionally see on Stephen's part in later stories is eventually resolved, rather than destroying the friedly alliance. The two seem like such a well-matched pair that I hope they are able to work through their occasional problems and allow their relationship to stabilize on a more equal basis. Stephen needs a friend more than he needs just another agent, while Peter deserves a friend rather than a boss.

Nice touches of humor in spots.

I particularly liked Stephen's attempt to convince Peter that he expected having a new partner soon. Bsed on the way you presented Stephen's thoughts earlier, he didn't know about Peter beforehand, but he is so smooth he makes me wonder - and The Shadow is a master of illusion.

"Have you ever considered writing a fanfic with someone? You know, a tag team story?"

So began my first e-mail from with Stephensmat in November of 2003. Hard to believe that one exchange led to sixteen stories and a lot of fun as well as, well, "The Start of a Beautiful Friendship".

We were either three or four stories into our series before I wrote the basic backstory dossier that eventually grew into this fiction, one of my favorites of all the ones we've done together. I'm thrilled to see so many people discovering these-thanks so much!

This is very nice work! I enjoyed reading a good story with the Shadow. I think you've done a great job with both of the main characters, they balance eachother perfectly. Keep up the great job!
