Well, at least they can be together in death. But poor Dis. Tolkien wasn't nice to take away all of her family like that.

What a great story! It made me both laugh and cry (it is rare that I cry with stories). Good characterization with all of the dwarves! I could totally see that happening after she hears the news :(

I am firmly of the belief that all Middle Earth females should be the focus of as much good writing as it is possible to produce, given their lack of facetime in the canon, and this story is certainly a wonderful addition to what little quality fanfiction there is concerning Dis. I love how you've written her here - gruff, a little prickly, but first and foremost a mother. I also love how you manage to convey how *young* Thorin's nephews are, and include so many dwarvish rites of passage in your story. (I'm not sure if they're canonical, but they fit well enough.) Her interactions with the other dwarves, including little Gimli, are wonderfully drawn, and your image of the afterlife there at the end of the story really ties things together nicely. Very well done!
