That was cute! Though you have some mistakes, think you really improved in your writing. But, one thing I would like to point out, at the end, it should be written like this:

"That was my best friend." He smiled, shaking his head. "Always surprising me! Shawn," he said as he looked toward heaven, "I love you brother." And with that, he fist bump toward heaven.

Or something like that. Any way, great job! : D
