FanfictionShadow chapter 9 . 10/7/2019 ...Wow. Just... wow. This story was incredible. You got the characters, the circumstances, the actions taken to all seem so natural, as if it actually happened or it actually could. Your writing was amazing, and so was your dedication to keeping it as close to historically accurate as possible. Thank you for all the work and research you put into this story. I am also interested in the plights of prisoners of war and of WWII and the Holocaust in general, and ever since I starting watching MASH (when I was a kid), I've also had an interest in the Korean War. So thank you for listing your sources, since I am definitely interested in reading those. A book you might be interested in that I read is "The Grand Escape" by Neal Bascomb. It is about prisoners of war during WW1 who successfully escaped from a German prison camp. It is an incredible account of the multiple escape attempts by a group of POWs who are split up then brought back together. I think that you will like it. Again, thank you for the sources and for your dedication. I loved this story from beginning to end, and I have a feeling it will always be one of my favorites. |
Shadowstar chapter 9 . 9/20/2018 Long time since you wrote this piece, but I'm visiting old fandoms and had to stop by to say that this really was a beautiful piece. Thank you for writing and sharing it. |

Psychodonut chapter 9 . 2/16/2017 A beautiful ending to a wonderfully well-written story. Well done! |
Beloved Daughter chapter 9 . 6/25/2016 Absolutely beautiful and magnificent story. I can tell the amount of work and research that went into your story. There were times were it felt more like an actual historical non-fiction story as opposed to fanfiction. Thank you for writing and posting. |
fayremead chapter 1 . 3/6/2016 "When There's a Will There's a War" has flaws, but may be the best example among M*A*S*H episodes of the whole being better than the sum of its parts. "Missing Hawk" does full justice to it and much more. Authenticity, characterization, dialogue and effect are all excellent. This will be among the best fanfics even if the format carries on for centuries. |
jojospn chapter 9 . 1/28/2016 This is absolutely incredible! I could immediately tell the amount of research and time it obviously took to write this story. I don't think I would have the patience to do so. And it clearly shows in this beautifully written, insightful story. I honestly clicked it because I am a sucker for hurt Hawkeye stories, and this one seemed to fit the bill. But it did not take me long to realize that this was by far more than just a hurt Hawkeye tale. You captured the hell of not just the Korean conflict, but war in general, perfectly. The imagery, detail was so real, I honestly felt like I was in Korea with the others from the 4077th. Not to mention your character insight. You absolutely nailed them all. I was especially impressed by Charles. That scene when he talks of the music in his head in the epilogue was absolutely phenomenal. And Margaret! You effortlessly kept her smark and strength while giving the reader a taste of the vulnerability. Absolutely fantastic work! |
Revhead chapter 9 . 1/15/2016 This is an incredible piece of writing. The research you did truly paid off - every line of this story rang true to both the characters and the situation you placed them in. This story took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and I cried more than once. It was beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Thank you for this gem, and for the happy ending. |
Revhead chapter 2 . 1/15/2016 I have cried so much already. This is truly heart-wrenching and so beautiful. I'm glad that Hawkeye's will was read to everyone because in the show they never heard those words, but wow that was painful :'( |
SdrawkcabForwards chapter 9 . 1/8/2016 This is fic is extremely well-written and thought-provoking. You're an excellent writer! |
mo chapter 9 . 12/18/2015 This is... really just a beautiful piece of writing. The characterizations, the research, the plot, everything, I can tell you put so much effort in to it and it has really paid off. Thank you for writing it and for "publishing" it so that people like me are given the chance to read it. |
flutterbye52000 chapter 9 . 12/14/2015 Mariole, please forgive that I have savoured my way through this extremely good story you've written, without taking the time to review even once. So ensconced was I that I sat up all night reading it and didn't stop till I was done. I don't believe I've ever read a better story anywhere, fanfic or not. Your talent is truly beautiful. I'm so glad Hawkeye survived his ordeal; otherwise sleep would have eluded me for night or two. Thank you for exposing us to your talent. |
OminousKitten chapter 9 . 12/1/2015 Wow. This story was just incredible. So very well-written. The thought and research you put into the plot and logistics is impressive. And the characters! You nailed their voices - each and every one. One of the best MASH fanfics I've ever read. |
Ellen Tracy chapter 9 . 11/1/2015 Goodness. This was an incredible moving fanfiction, and very well written. |
Talon Gibb chapter 2 . 6/9/2015 An amazing use of alternate history, and dare I say it, a heart-wrenching one at that. Bravo, Mariole. |
