Obiwriter341 chapter 1 . 12/30/2012
Okay, so I'm being a bit blunt here (sorry), but read the whole thing, I swear it's not all criticism, and I only criticize to try to help people improve.

This story moves way, way, waaaaaay too fast. Seriously, I barely met your characters and the story was over. Character development is especially important if you're using OCs. The more you develop your characters, the more attached your reader gets to them and the more we care what happens to them. Also, it seemed like they woke up and escaped. Bam, that's easy. Not too much plot, and not too exciting.

Ivel seemed really cocky, and a bit full of himself, which doesn't make him a very appealing character. Plus, he's a Jedi, so he shouldn't act like that. This line seems like the SW equivalent of racism: "I needed a way out of this disgusting place. I mean, almost everything had crap all over it! It was a wonder the Geonosians didn't have it all over them! They usually had, like, a missing eye or something of that nature." It's not very Jedi-like at all.

Also, I have no clue what's going on. Okay, so there are two Padawans captured by Geonosians and they escape. Why are they captured? What kind of mission were they on? Give me the backfill! And where are their Masters? Aren't they worried?

This story is a good start, and it has potential - the capture/escape theme is really exciting and emotional. I also like that you used OCs. Those are really hard to write convincingly, and I don't think my OCs are that awesome, either. But if you practice with OCs, writing original fiction gets a ton easier than if you practice with pre-made characters who already have personalities and backgrounds. It's the difference between a homemade pot of soup and condensed soup from a can. Kudos to you for taking that task on.

Your grammar is great, too. I hope this doesn't sound like an empty compliment, because it's actually huge. If I open a story and the spelling and punctuation make my eyes bleed, I won't read any further. Your story had a few small typos, but that was it, and everyone falls prey to those once in a while.

Finally, I do recognize that this was on a deadline for school and it was a while ago - no doubt your writing has done nothing but improve since you wrote this. I hope this doesn't come off as mean; I'm trying to review for people like I want them to do for me. I think this kind of review helps you grow as a writer much more than a "good. update plz!" does, don't you?

Anyway, congrats on the story, as I'm sure it took a ton of work, and keep writing! :)
