What a fun story-it definitely did put the "resistance" into "resistance shipping" and overall conveys that sense of someone gradually starting to change in a certain way (in this case, starting to care for Whitney) while denying it to oneself the whole time.

If I were to pick one thing to pick at, it would be that I feel a little bit of skepticism about Morty both being a workaholic who trains constantly (which would tend to be a type-A sort of person) and also being the sort of passive-aggressive person who, while not wanting Whitney to call him, is too passive to take action to stop her from doing so. (It's often hard to characterize the game characters due to scarcity of dialogue, but based mainly on his character design I picture Morty as being more of a laid-back type, so for me, the "going with the flow" and not bothering to stop Whitney from calling fits more with my image of him.)

Anyways, I loved the way you integrated this story into the game world with so many little details, from the clefairy doll delivered by a drifblim to Morty using his trips to the dojo in Kanto as an excuse to avoid Goldenrod while denying he is avoiding it. Your poking fun at the way trainers call you in HG/SS to tell you utterly trivial things using Whitney's constant pestering of Morty with phone calls is hilarious. You take that idea of the pestersome trainer call and expand on it with some spot-on characterization of Whitney-speaking of which, I also loved the way you included her uncontrollable bursts of tears in the story. :p

There was tons of other great humor, too, like the older trainer grumbling about young people being glued to their pokegear and that whole dialogue with Whitney getting kicked out of the Game Center and Morty saying he would be, too, if he followed her suggestion.

Overall, the concept and flow of Whitney pestering someone until she gets under their skin (both in the sense of Morty being unable to ignore her criticism about what makes a good trainer, and his starting to care about her despite himself) rings very true to Whitney as a character and seems like something she would do.

I've been on a Resistanceshipping kick lately, revisiting some favorite fics. I love how well written this is and I love the drama between them. Bravo!

i absolutely adore your characterizations of both whitney and morty, and how you managed to portray a convincing conflict between them, stemming from the inherent differences in their personalities (like you said, that's what makes them interesting!). i'm jealous of your writing style, it's simple and concise but explains so much without using big words or complicated language (which i struggle in). all in all, it was a great read 'u'

MORTY YOU'RE A DORK OH MY GOD but he's a dork of the best kind and it's cute how he doesn't realize that he's grown fond of whitney until she's Not There and does stuff like buy clefairy dolls for her because she evolved a clefable what a dork

also whitney is always the best no matter what. i loved her in-game because she was so sassy and had a defined personality, and even in pokespe hgss she wasn't just another gym leader, she managed to convince gold to go through with his quest. i am so glad that you did her character justice in this, because even though she uses the incredibly pretty girl as her tagline and loves pink and cute things and shopping, she's also tough as nails and stubborn and surprisingly mature (like when she evolved clefable because it was stronger.)

your writing style is divine and a treat to read, and i am hopeful that you return to the writing world!

Gosh, I... I really like this fic a lot! It's very cute and the pacing is well done. I especially like how you've managed to characterize the both of them without any official dialogue. This is one of my favorite ships and I've really enjoyed the interactions between the two in this one. Keep up the good work!
