I’m reading this story for the first time and it is simply gorgeous. Kate, Alexis and Jim at Christmas. Castle dreaming of their future. All so brilliantly structured and executed in 3 connected parts.

This line, “It's still sadness but it's a muted sadness, wistful, like a trace of perfume.” might be one of the most evocative and beautiful lines I’ve read.
