I think in the show, fear overruled actually. He could have done better by Mordred. But prophecies of doom have a way of affecting our choices. It was a hard choice he had to do in the show.

This one right here in the fic is just as heavy. We can't really quickly say what's right and wrong.

That's exactly what I expected to see in the show, after Mordred asked Merlin if he wouldn't done the same. I was dissapointed that Merlin didn't chose to try and convince him by sharing his own tragic experience. I'm sure he rescued Kara anyway, but maybe, just maybe he wouldn't seek revenge. If only Merlin had try to befriended him..but that's another story. Thanks for writing!
