Unicadia chapter 1 . 9/11/2016 The last sentence is beautiful Well done. |
SkyHolt chapter 1 . 2/19/2016 This is wonderful! I love Courfeyrac's refusal to let Valjean have his way, and how he insists that Valjean think of Cosette as her own person rather than someone to be protected :D |
LittleLongHairedOutlaw chapter 1 . 9/4/2015 This was glorious |
staringatstars07 chapter 1 . 12/13/2014 You incorporated the novel well. It's nice to see someone treat Cosette as an equal and ask others to also treat her as such. Plus, he's surprisingly sharp. |
Butterfly chapter 1 . 1/23/2014 Wonderful, I've never seen this pairing before...hmmm...I'm not sure on it, but well-written as for the rest! |
Deep Forest Green chapter 1 . 12/23/2013 I like the name you chose for Courfeyrac- "Theophile" and your characterization was spot on. My only complaint was that you used large chunks of Valjean's dialogue straight out of the book. I understand that you wanted to be accurate, but try to mix it up a little, since this is fanfiction. |
Autumn Moon Fae chapter 1 . 3/10/2013 This should have happened. This really should have happened. |
aimeesmith1 chapter 1 . 2/3/2013 Really enjoyed this. I wasn't sure about the Cosette/Courfeyrac pairing, but you sold me on it. Actually, I think I'd be in favor of Cosette/Anyone but Marius. :D Glad Courfeyrac is so much more rational and mature than that dolt. |
RobertaWickham chapter 1 . 1/24/2013 Now this is delightful (though rather sad, as well, if you consider canon-the affectionate de Courfeyracs must have been devastated at their son's death on the barricade in Hugo's novel, but hey, this is an AU, and it didn't happen here!). Courfeyrac, with his persistent generosity and warmth, makes an infinitely better romantic hero and good son-in-law than poor old Marius. Marius doesn't exactly cover himself with glory when Valjean confesses to him, heh. But Courfeyrac's reaction here makes perfect sense and is so well written. I love how you have him cross-examining Valjean like Courfeyrac is the defense lawyer and Valjean is his own prosecutor. And thank GOD Courfeyrac challenges the patronizing attitude to Cosette both Valjean and (with less excuse) Marius display in canon. It makes sense, coming from him. His "collection" means he has actually had to interact with women, and given that he's a decent guy he would probably treat them like human beings. I love the cameos of Combeferre and Joly (and Joly's cold!) at the barricade as well. It really shows how much Courfeyrac's friends love him ("his own great heart," awww), but also gives Valjean grounds to actually respect Courfeyrac, seeing him as a leader. I totally want to know more now, like how would the Amis react to Cosette and Valjean and play uncle to Courfeyrac's kid, but the ending is also really nice as it is. |
Emma chapter 1 . 1/21/2013 What a wonderful, well-written beginning; eagerly waiting for more! Your Courfeyrac is lovely, and his practical answer to Valjean's confession is so much more satisfying than Marius' cold-blooded acceptance in the book (and it fits his self-proclaimed political views, too ). Will you delve into the backstory of Courfeyrac and Cosette's romance, too? I really hope you do; with Courfeyrac's personality, I feel it will be much more interesting and less gloomy than with Marius! Great job! |
PaperRevolution chapter 1 . 1/12/2013 Goodness, can I just mention how much I love your Courfeyrac? You write him so well - so full of verve and vigour and exactly the right mixture of flippancy and earnest-ness. This is just perfect. And I love the way you ended this, with that little reference to the Brick, by the way. And I love the part where Courfeyrac asks, "Why should she not be treated as a rational person?". It's so something he would say, and so lovely and right, and I just...ahh, I can't even form coherent opinions right now. Also, I like how different this scene was from the canon one with Marius, under the same circumstances. |
Jirobi56 chapter 1 . 12/19/2012 I think you may have made a shipper out of me and Cosette isn't even here. This is really awesome. |
Guest chapter 1 . 12/18/2012 I really hope that you do keep going. I'd love to see what Cosette/Courfeyrac are like interacting and I have ALWAYS wanted to see Cosette assure Valjean that it's not worth it to exile himself and she still wants him in her life (the one part of the book where I resented her was when it said she didn't really notice him leaving but that we should not blame her for this because she just loved Marius so much that their minds were the same or some other such nonsense). And given how authentic the confession felt, I'm sure you could do the next part with Cosette justice as well. |
AMarguerite chapter 1 . 12/17/2012 Oh please do write this backstory! This is such a charming fic- your Courfeyrac is as splendid as ever, so kind and yet so practical, so willing and able to understand the hang-ups and feelings of others. And AI do love how your write Valjean, poor tormented soul that he is. He deserves a bit of happiness! and I do love this pairing so. In fact, I loved it mostly from this fic! You capture the lovely potential of their interactions so well. Please do continue! I am so curious as to how the barricades worked out in this 'verse, what happened to Javert, how Courfeyrac and Cosette met, etc. |
The Almost Anonymous One chapter 1 . 12/18/2012 This is really good. I'm glad that someone was able to talk some sense into Valjean. I also loved all the little mentions of the other members of Les Amis. That wedding must have been epic. |
