Lost my interest in reading yet another exact rehash of canon. Maybe you'll rewrite it once you've learned the concept of cause and effect, that actions need to have consequences. Riddick's character is anathema to most every scene you'll be writing with the crew etc. and River. But you just throw all that out to stick to canon lines, completely ignoring the story you yourself are writing.
This is written rather well aside from you bending yourself over backwards to claw your way back to the canon plot. Disappointing.

You try so hard to stick to canon you make River watch Johns torture Riddick and just let him when she has a gun in her hands? You break your own story doing so . . . They in no way need Johns alive.

I know it happened in canon but it is really fucking annoying letting Johns shit on Riddick three times in a row. Riddick is a badass. Stop making him a pussy.

I have to say one of the best fics that I have read/listen to. I have the series and movie and have to say that you did a great job in blending pitch black and the firefly verus together. have to start reading/listening to some of the other pb/r/ff/s stories now. hope to see more. you ever planning on a whole pitch black(aka riddick all 3 movies) and firefly serenity story

Best story ever

This is difficult for me as I struggle to read this piece after reading through some of your previous works I start to see a pattern and I think you are not representing Riddick or Mal properly at all.

Much like in All the Voices you seem to need a hateful character who acts irrationally and is just plain stupid some days. That was Simon in Voices (a horrible caricature) that went so out of voice for him that it was like reading about a new person. And in this tale you seem to want Mal to be your whipping boy. It demeans him to be made so petty, foolish and downright blind. Mal is one of the best characters in Firefly/Serenity and despite his affable nature and the obvious jokes in show, he is also extremely intelligent and dangerous. You write him here to be bumbling, a poor shot and ignorant... its like you switched Jayne and his brains all because you have a love of Jayne and want him to be the perfect match for a Jack that isn't really Jack at all in this piece since her very existence as a character is tied to Riddick's movie universe.

The biggest issue is with Riddick, he is no longer representative of what Riddick is... Furyan...a natural surviver and alpha predator... I know part of the romance is having him be soft and fluffy with River, but we also never see him be dangerous, competent or skilled (so far) either... we see him be poetic, well spoken, and insulting basically how Mal used to act in the show half the time... Riddick is cracking jokes for god's sakes. (and not dark ones). I also disagree with the assessment that violence is not part of his defining nature, it very much is... the whole race of people wiped out by the lord marshal, the wrath of a race, his whole childhood and the background instincts of what he is- if you had a pet tiger, the tiger's ability to kill would be a huge part of what/who it was, no matter how much it loved you as it's "owner" you have to respect its ability to kill and maim... it feels like Riddick is not being respected.

sigh I adored Invictus in the Black and hoped that a similar theme/characterization would follow your other Riddick/River works but so far that is the only story that has the balance of loving mate and yet still dangerous predator... this story may have that later... but it has been a slog already and feels like I am just reading a re-tread of the series with Riddick cosplayer and brain-dead Mal.

That being said, you write beautifully and in almost every instance I have found River to be astoundingly portrayed... She feels consistent throughout your stories but Riddick does not... perhaps because he takes your focus and thus is mutated through overt attention? Still I am thrilled to have read at least one great connected between them.

If I had a wish having skipped ahead a little and read reviews it also seems you focus almost entirely on the Firefly verse, I would love to see what you do with the actual Riddick verse as perhaps Riddicks loss of edge comes from the lack of threat? Thanks for sharing your work.

Thank you for starting and finishing this tale it was fantastic from start to finish. I read so many that start and never seem to finish but this one stuck it out and it was worth all the wait. I love river and Riddick together and this version is one of the best. Please continue writing and updating and we will continue reading

Okay great story shame we never got to see Riddick use his canon knives and more baddies for him to rip in two. If your sure you will never do a lengthy fic in this verse again why not make this fic's sequel into a crossover, where Riddick and River plus their kids ships FTL malfunctioned and they ended up in a another verse. For examples Star Wars, Robotech, Saints Row, Fallout, BSG:03, Mass effect, Call of duty.

Whelp it's been interesting little sad there wasn't more Riddick stuff and how close to canon a majority of this was. I will say there were multiple times I wanted to reach in a slap some common sense/manners into Mal.

Though curious if there will be a sequel to this maybe by adding another verse into the equation?
