Rick is so family centred - even though he thinks of Daryl as a brother and Carol as a sister (?) his main reason for caving in on the decision to let Merle stay is to protect his daughter and his son. Loved all th subtext - Daryl's love for his brother and for Carol, although I bet he wouldn't have been so confident in front of her!

I loved this story! You write the characters perfectly. I would love to know Daryl's POV and if Carol would have gone with him. Carol's' POV would be interesting because I know that would be such a hard decision for her.

Goddammit. get out of my head. Seriously. This was my head canon as SOON as I watched 3.08.

Aside from whining about you stealing my head canon, this was brilliantly done. I love the fact that you keep throwing in the little asides about how dirty and gross everything would be at that point. Love it.

Nice speculation...I don't think Rick would let them go. He would be torn between wanting Daryl to stay and wanting to keep the group safe, but he'd choose right in the end.

I really don't want Merle to create conflict like this, but this is Merle we're talking about and the guy holds a grudge. Rick could save his life and he'd still be 'the prick who left him in Atlanta'.

*sigh* The Dixon brothers are perfect for an old angst whore like me :P
