By the way, Surge was the one who did all the graffiti, but I can understand if you got that wrong because it was only alluded to once in the credits.

Very nice! You took a fairly minor character in the movie, gave him a background, and showed us what he is like. Then you let Surge / Bertram get some recognition for what he does. I like this story, and the writing is good..

On a personal note, my father worked for the Allis-Chalmers farm machinery company for many years, and I remember how he frequently said "The only time I'm in the front office is to catch hell for something." He did his job well, by never got any praise, only criticism. That isn't good for anybody.

But in this story of yours Surge/Bertram gets the "thank-you" that he deserves. If you come up with another story about him, I hope you will post it here.

The only glitch in your story that I could find is that the name is "Game Central Station." But I had to see the movie twice to catch that myself.

This was nice and well written, it fit the universe perfectly actually. I've had the pleasure of doing ROM hacks on actual arcade machines (mostly bootleg translations) sometime in the stone age, and messing with the sprites was done too. This isn't uncommon, for example, there's a bootleg nintendo console being sold that has an old Popeye game with the sprites replaced with Pokemons.

It's nice to see such stories even for the minor characters; it adds so much more to an already brilliant film.

First Surge fic I've seen, nice.

This was such a nice, refreshing one-shot, and definitely a plot outlet that has yet to explored. I'm glad that this found it's way to words, as it shows a different side to the movie, as well as giving ample attention and motivation to an otherwise seemingly minor character. Surge offers a lot of potential for in-story canon roles regarding his interaction with the main characters or the surrounding games of the arcade, and I think you managed to capture one such instance here. I also found the more modern connections you gave him (in terms of the arcade and the interwebs) to be inspirational, and wishing such ideas had been more prominent in the movie. Luckily, with the alleged rumors of a sequel on the horizon, the access to these ideals will become more likely, and maybe we'll see more stories of this caliber soon. Great job on this character portrayal and keep up the great work.
