I loved this! Why couldn't it have happened like this in the show! Just brilliant, nothing more to say :D

The boys definitely have an angel to go on top of their tree. I like your version better than the show.
MeAzrael chapter 8 . 1/2/2013
"As hallucinations go, Dean thought, it could have been a helluva lot worse. Although he wasn't quite sure where the dog came into the equation …" LOL.
Loved your description of Sam's scent and how it's the final impulse to bring Dean back... not to mention Cas and his grace-thing.

What a lovely end. And it leaves us with three friends and a dog... that reminds me of something :-)

Wonderful Christmas story, my friend.

I hope you had a terrific New Year's Eve (I certainly had)

MeAzrael chapter 7 . 1/2/2013
Hehe, I know it's a sad start to this chapter, but still - I couldn't help grinning at that line: "Letting out another long sigh, Castiel cursed the existence that had left him totally incapable of making decisions for himself." :-)

And then: YAY, Sam enters the stage, just in time, thank God, it's a Christmas miracle. Some day these two should make a guilt feeling contest, I'm really not sure who would win it. Doesn't matter, as long as they are together :-)

MeAzrael chapter 6 . 1/2/2013
Aw, it's as heartwarming as sad to see Sam move into his new home with Heidi - trying to settle into a normal life. While at the same time Cas does his best to make the cabin a home for Dean, but to no avail.

"Dean didn't respond to Castiel's divine power because he didn't want to be healed." Hardly surprising, but still: I wanted to grab Dean and give him a healthy shake :-( And then Sam lying on his bed thinking of how Dean used to love Christmas... sniff!

Snort! Oh man, I can see Cas walk through the forest for miles and miles with his plastic bags :-) With all the stuff Sam would've bought too (if he had been bold enough to present Dean vegetables and fruits). Loved the idea with Rufus' gold watch. Too sad that at the end of the day nothing helped to find Sam. I'm starting to feel sorry for Cas...

Lovely chapter! Sam ending to help in an animal rescue center does make so much more sense then becoming a plumber! And of course he'd find a certain amount of comfort in a dog's freely unconditional love. Heidi? Hehe, sweet!

Poor boys, heartbroken - each in his own way. At least Dean has Cas - and hope...
"Tomorrow would be the day he would hear Sam's voice." Sniff!

MeAzrael chapter 3 . 1/1/2013
Finally Dean has to succumb to a motherhen even bigger as he is - nice :-)

"I don' faint," he shook his head; "I – uh – blacked out." LOL

Jeez, I don't know if I would trust Castiel with Dean - he seems way to fascinated by his anatomy ;-)

Cas and his experiences with shaving? Hehe, so cute!

MeAzrael chapter 2 . 12/30/2012
Hehe - lovely scene with the foggy landscape and the lonely hare - disturbed by the crack between his world and Purgatory :-)

I was fascinated by these lines: "Purgatory was not just a place, it was a state of being. It was a state of being so soulless and desolate that it killed every facet of individuality and free will in its prisoners; every sense, every skill and every power whether spiritual, physical or supernatural were stripped away as deftly and efficiently as if Alastair himself had been wielding the razor, until all that was left was naked instinct. The oldest and purest instinct of them all – kill or be killed." I guess you can't describe Dean's time in Purgatory better than that! Kudos!

Ah Cas, still not used to Dean's sense of purpose and the things he has to do to fulfill it ;-) And what a poor timing - to arrive at the cabin just after Sam left it. Lovely. The sisters of fate must have so much fun...

MeAzrael chapter 1 . 12/30/2012
Hello my friend. You've been busy again - and it's just now that I find the time to read it, sorry :-)

Great start to your story, and really, I'd love to believe it has been like that - and why not? It's Sam, he couldn't have just turned and walked away - no matter how it might feel in the show right now.

"I knew that Dean would hate for me to be sitting here with my thumb up my ass, helpless and clueless and wasting my life chasing his memory, but how could I just give up on him?" Loved that - it's the kind of logic that for some reason always has to fail in the Winchester world. Of course Dean would've wished a real life for his brother - then again: not so much. Because he can't think of a life without being a hunter - and without having his brother by his side.

Happy New Year, Jane!

Poor Dean! I think I like your version better than what they did in the beginning of season 8... :)
akaStoryteller chapter 8 . 12/28/2012
As always, a lovely tale you've told here. My favorite parts, of course, are the moments between the brothers. Something I miss fiercely.

I love your enthusiastic Castiel... he's so adorable when he's clueless! :) Love the fic so far!
