I just red this after reading Bits and Pieces, and I scold myself for reading another story that breaks my heart. Right now I want to give Jack a big hug, but I can't cause that would freak him out because he hasn't been touched in 300 years. That, and he's a fictional character, but whatever, I believe in him.

Oh, this one was very sneaky, it's fun and delightful, to be sure, but there are these little sneaky things: "He checks the ice coating the pond not once but twice - freezes it over again for good measure, though he does not know why it preoccupies him so." It hurts, dangit, but it's small inclusions like that that really make a fic solid (and painful guh), I friggen loved it! I loved all of it! The image of Jack eagerly awaiting the morning, him playing with the kids (being almost okay with them not seeing him) and looking out for them, making sure the play stays FUN (a Guardian before he even knew it, that's it, i'm gonna cry); he's there in the yard when that first kid comes out, and he's still there when the last door closes, and that's all kinds of tragic I don't even know what to say.

It's beautiful and melancholic, and the whole thing has an interesting feel to it, it was lovely to read! C:

Sometimes I wish that I could go into a fanfiction to give a character a hug. This is one of those times.
