The Stranded are selfish and prideful scum. They're the sort of people who take what they want, murder who they want, rape who they want, and get offended if there's any consequences against them for it as they honestly believe they haven't done anything wrong.

And the Stranded wouldn't have any "requirements". There is no way in hell the Far East people wouldn't make contact with the COG just because the Stranded didn't want them to. You're not going to ignore the only real nation left on the planet just because some crazies are having a temper tantrum.

And if they did, if they ignored the COG, rejected any aid to them, and helped the Stranded rebuild. Then the Stranded would eventually turn on them because they'll want what the Far East people have and will simply take it or try to. That's what they do to everyone they encounter, that is their nature.

And if they did that but also allowed COG citizens to leave the COG and go join the reconstruction? Uncomfortable truths that would put the Stranded in the doghouse would come out real quick.

I don't get why they think England would attack them. England would acquire a hostile population it would have difficulty supporting, an energy sink it would have problems providing for, and absolutely zero benefit.

Hmm, I like the first chapter. Not too much to bite but provides a decent hook.

I've read some reviews and I'm not sure how to feel about a stranded protectorate. They're not a sympathetic people left behind or just trying to survive, you know. They're like Fallout 3 raiders: selfish assholes looking for an excuse to rape, murder, and loot and claiming it's because the COG abandoned them. Which A) did not happen, they chose not to leave the cities when given the evacuation order and B) wouldn't stop humanity from being wiped out if the Stranded got their way or if their constant attacks and undermining of the COG succeeded in letting the Locust win. They're scum and completely unsympathetic. Worse than the Locust since at least the Locust really are fighting for survival to escape the Lambent whereas the Stranded have no need at all for their actions as they could just connect and ally with the COG. They raid just because they want to.
